    1. [ILWILL] Monteith Family
    2. Dear Will County List, I am a new subscriber. My ancestors include the Gray, Monteith, and Williams families of Florence, Wilmington, and Wesley. (1830s - 1870s) My question: Mary Monteith married George Alexander Gray 7 June 1844, probably in Wilmington where the Monteiths lived. Would like to know the names of protestant churches in Wilmington at that time. Many thanks! Susan Gray Detweiler Charleston, SC

Should have a search done of the First Presbyterian-Joliet & Lockport transcription in the collection of Will Grundy Genealogy Society(WGGS)held at Coal City IL Library Have you searched will county website for entries in 1850 census? I saw a George A. Gray listed on page 111 and a George Gray listed page 114 both in Wilmington 1860 census index shows a Geroge Gray,Florence twp(next to wlimington)page 275.Can also check 1850 for other surnames Monteith/Montieth and Williams. He had a son Alexander who enlisted 8 Oct 1861 civil war res. wilmington, Co.E 39th IL reg. reenlisted 1Jan 1864 same reg.,died of wounds 10 sep 1864 in hospital. His Father George A. Gray applied for a federal pension 10 May 1880. You should get both federal and state pension and service records. Can get state marriage license and state civil war record through illinois state archives. Links to state archives on will county website under resources. They have lots of indexes that may be useful.
