To Dave, Sorry about the three duplicate messages! I made a mistake on the address the first time. I tried twice to resend the message with no success. Then on the third try they all went through. Jacqueline Munch

Originally it was the resting place for all denominations, as it was the only local cemetery. A short time later, South Lockport/St. Dennis Cemetery was established and Catholic burials took place there. For Jack, I will see if our library has a record of the burials in St. Dennis Cemetery in their Local History Room. If not, we plan to purchase a copy for our collection soon. In The Lockport Cemetery record book, I found the following: Section II, Row 12 22. William Wallace Morrison, PFC US Army, World War II, Apr. 5, 1922-May 9, 1998. 24. Ruth L. Morrison, nee Blodgett, 1902-1976. 25. Wallace J. Morrison, 1902-1938 23. was Frankie, son of Levi W. Hartwell, A-- 2, 1853-Aug. 1, 1870 (The -- and underlining mean they were difficult to read.) 21 listed several Hartwells including Levi W. mentioned above. There must have been a connection between the two families. Section IV, Row 32 23. Jean Audrey Morrison, 1923-1924 Section III, Row 44 6. August Braun, 1845 Husband 1910/Amelia Braun, 1849 Wife 1937/Frank Ludwig, 1881 Nephew 1896. Will send another message after I look at the St. Dennis Cemetery records. For Marge, I did not find any DENNY or KELSEY in The Lockport Cemetery. When I get to the local library, I will check other cemetery records and also the local funeral home records to see if I can find them. Jacqueline Munch, LAGHS jlmunch@earthlink.net
Hello Robert: According to "The First Catholic Church in Joliet, Illinois" pub. 1960, which contains extractions of records of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, p. 135, John Patrick Burns, the son of James Burns and Elizabeth "Sharadan" was baptized on 5 December 1841 by Fr. Hippolyte DuPontavice. Sponsors were Francis Thigh and Anne Doharty. Hope this helps. I don't have information per se on the Bruce family, but my grandfather leased farm land from the Bruce family that was just south of Bruce Rd. and east of rt. 171. I have many happy memories of the times we spent there. I lived in the Fairmont area. My Aunt and Uncle lived there with my Grandfather. My Grandmother died there in 1942. My grandfather lived on the farm until 1960. The land was sold and the farmhouse was burned down. It was very sad for us to watch it go. My Dad's sisters and brothers would come every Sunday to the farm - we had pigs, chickens, several cows, and I think in the 40's there were some horses, too. There was always music, because my Dad played the guitar, my uncle played the concertina, and I have a cousin who played the accordian. There were 9 children. My Dad's family had a lot of respect for Mr. Bruce. To Dave: If you are interested in having a picture of the farmhouse, I could arrange to send one or e-mail it to you. mamz46@aol.com
Is there a listing for Hadley cemetery anywhere? I would really appreciate a look up for Christiana Gatliff (or any Gatliff)------Ron
Please look for Charles Denny and his wife Susan Thanks Marge
To Marge and Dave, I will be going to the Lockport Gen. & Hist. Soc. office to work on Friday afternoon. We are a new organization and just in the process of getting organized. Marge, I will look for Charles Denny in the Lockport City Cemetery record book if we have it. Is that all you're looking for? Dave, let me know the exact names you want me to look for in the cemetery. Do you want me to check with Nancy Bruce Crilly about any of your names? Jacqueline Munch jlmunch@earthlink.net
Correction to my last post, she was the daughter of Charles who was the son of Lysander. Marge
I would like to know more about the Denny family. My grandmother was Ellen Denny, Lysander's daughter. Marge s
For Marge, I DO NOT have the transcription of Lockport Cemetery, sorry. Jacqueline Munch wrote an email today and mentioned that the Lockport Area Genealogical and Historical Society might have a copy of this in their collection. She gave her email address, perhaps you could contact her? I know there is one copy in the collection of the Will Grundy Genealogy Society at the Coal City Public Library(Grundy county)IL. I am very familiar with the DENNY family. They came with the HAVEN families from NY in 1835,first to Joliet then to New lenox and frankfort townships. The 1850 census of joliet shows Lysander DENNY machinist age 53 born NY with his family several families later DENNY Charles age 27 born NY machinist Susan age 23 born NY Charles M.,age 2 born IL Ellen age 2/12(born in census year)IL in the 1860 census, Lysander is in New Lenox township with his family and his brother Allen and his family is in Frankfort township. in the 1840 census Lysander is in Hickory Creek precinct(also his brother Allen) which later became Frankfort and New lenox townships. Quite a few of the Havens are buried in New Lenox Maplewood cemetery. As far as I know, there isn't a transcription of this cemetery. I have more info on the HAVEN and DENNY families but no more specifically on this Charles. If you would like the rest of the DENNY/HAVEN info please email me directly. Hope this helps, Kathy
I am looking for Charles Denny born 1823 in NY, married Susan (Kelsey) b 1826 PA in Will County 8/26/1847. In the Kelsey info I found reference that he may have died in Lockport, Ill. Would appreciate any info you can find on him. Marge
Dave, I live in Lockport and am a member of The Lockport Area Genealogical & Historical Society. I live just a few blocks from what we call the Lockport City Cemetery where protestants are buried. I believe we have a copy of that cemetery book done by Nancy Bruce Crilly in our society's collection. Also Nancy is a member of our group as well as president of the Will/Grundy Gen. Soc. She lives just outside of Lockport and attends our meetings. She has done extensive research on the Bruce family. We even have a road just south of our town named Bruce Road because the old and large Bruce home was at the corner of that road and the road that connect us with Joliet which has many names: Lockport Rd., State St in Lockport, Collins St. in Joliet and now Rt 171. Let me know if I can be of help to you and what you would like. Jacqueline Munch jlmunch@earthlink.net
Thanks Kathy, I'm assuming they are buried in Lockport Protestent cemetery. Luellas mother(Josephine) and Father(Amos Jr.) are right in the middle of the cemetery(have photo). My 5G Grandfather(Amos Stanton) Father and 5G Grandmother(Prudence) are supposedly bureied there as well. The records show that H.G Burdick(son) has a Lot 15 Block 3(North 1/2 of lot, Graves 5-6-7-8). Couldnt find it. Anyone who has any information on the desendents of Amos and Josephine or knows Lockport cemetery feel free to contact me. -Dave -----Original Message----- From: zavada [mailto:zavada@uti.com] Sent: Sunday, August 25, 2002 6:51 PM To: ILWILL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILWILL] request census lookup surname BRUCE & BURDICK For Dave, Don't have access to 1910 but did find the following: Joliet City Directories 1884-1892 BRUCE,Eben S. 1888- works for Barrett & Son shipping clerk res.
