    3. For Oneida, death certificates are available from 1877 to 1915 in will county not 1876. BUT death certificates were not required by the state of illinois until 1916 and even then people were reluctant to start making them out until almost 1920. Send me the names you are looking for and I will check for you. zavada@uti.com Kathy

    3. Hello Oneida: The State of Illinois did not mandate the filing of death certificates until 1916. Any records before that are sporadic, so you may or may not find one. There was always one filed if the case involved the coroner (or at least there should have been). Other than that, there were no hard and fast rules. 1. [ILWILL] Lohmann/Seeman Family
    2. Thanks to all for your help and especially to Sheila. I think she solved my mystery in more ways than one. I did not know my g-grandfather John Henry SEAMAN had lived in St. Clair, Michigan and never would have thought to look there. All their children were born in Grundy Co, Illinois and then Clare Co, Michigan and him and his wife were buried with some of the children in Midland Co, Michigan. They must have moved sometime between 1910 and 1920 because they were in the 1920 census for Midland Co, Michigan. I certainly will check that out! Secondly, this also proves that this is indeed the right Sophia and Henry LOHMANN and family because her daughter Dorothea Seeman did indeed marry Johannes KNACK and they lived in Minnesota. Henry was suppose to have died in 1906 and I don't see Sophia or Henry Lohmann in the Midland Co Cemetery, so my best bet for them both is still in Will Co, Green Garden Twp, Illinois. 3. Floratina (Florentina) Seemann is not related to the Lohmanns. She is from the Seemann family who lived in Joliet. She came from Prussia. I have not found a connection between the two families. 2. Just as a side bit of information........when you start looking at these names in the German script......you will find that "S'' and ''L".......look remarkably similar, and it would be easy to confuse the 2. I could see where "Lehmann" could be read as "Sehmann" and vice-versa.

    3. Hi Julie: Thank you so much for the Census information! I think the Colorado and Ft. Madison, IA Gatliffs are another branch of this line, although it is interesting that you found a " Christian " . This name has never appeared in the line as a male, and we did find Christianas name with that spelling on one other occasion.I will have to check that out! I am aware of a Charles Gatliff in Racine, and believe him to be the Charles from Will Co.We know that one of Christiana's sons, Thomas Cornelius Gatliff was in Racine for a short while but, so far, have not found Christiana there. Again, thans so much for the information. It will definately be helpful!-----------Ron ----- Original Message ----- From: <JulieBskt@aol.com> To: <ILWILL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 06, 2002 3:23 AM Subject: [ILWILL] GRATLIFF >

    1. [ILWILL] GRATLIFF
    2. I did a census index search for your family in 1840 and 50, but none showed up in Illinois. There was in 1840, a Charles Gatliff in Racine Co, WI page 79. Could they, or Charles, have moved on from Will Co into Wisconsin? Then...in 1850, I fond a 20 year old Charles Gatliff in El Dorado Co, Greenwood Valley page 56, CA ....born in KY. He was a miner. I wondered if he was possibly a son? Also in 1850 Lee Co, Fort Madison Iowa page 288 is a Christian Gatliff. I thought you might want to check that out, just in case it was Christine (or listed as female) instead of a male Christian. I looked at the Illinois marriage index and didn't see a remarriage for Christine, but it could be there, under some wierd spelling. sorry I couldn't help further. Julie

    2. Can anyone tell me the names of the cemeteries in Green Garden Township? In particular, I am looking for Henry and Sophia LOHMANN. I found them in the 1870 and 1880 for Will Co, Green Garden Twp, but they may have died or moved before the 1900 census. Sophia's son from first marriage, John SEEMANN (my g-grandfather) did move to Grundy Co when he married Johanna KRUG in 1892. John Seemann was born February 03, 1858 in Warnow, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany. The family came to the US around 1868. The family eventually changed the spelling to Seaman. The 1870 census lists the family this way: Lohmann, Henry 36 Prussia Lohmann, Sophia 38 Mecklenburg Henry 10 Prussia August 3 Illinois Seehmann, John 12 Mecklenburg Dora 6 Mecklenburg Thanks for any help anyone can give me. 3. For Jack, The book containing records for St Dennis and Calvary Cemeteries of Lockport is going to the printer next week. It will be available from The Will/Grundy Counties, IL Genealogical Society. I know the person who prepared the book, so I called her and she checked her copy for me. She found the following in south half of St. Dennis Cemetery. There's a road dividing it down the middle. In the 18th row from Jefferson St.: John J. Morrison 1876 - 1959 Margaret A. Morrison 1876 - 1967 (It could be that the gravestones for Jane and Michael are no longer legible.) In Calvary Cemetery: John A. Morrison 1910-1990 V. Lucille 1919-2001 Kayleen (child) 1942-1957 In the Goodale Funeral Home records, I found the following: Wallace J. Morrison, age 35 years 3 months 3 days, of 1127 State Street, Lockport, married, laborer at oil company. Born Lockport 22 December 1902; died at home 25 March 1938. Wife: Ruth Morrison. Father John Morrison, born Lockport; mother, Margaret Wallace, born Lockport. Fuhneral at Goodale Funeral Home by Rev. E.L. Snodgrass; burial in Lockport Cemetery 27 March 1938. I copied the two pages from the booklet, "Lockport Has A Birthday", that mention the Morrisons. Do you have that information? It says Michael was Runyantown's first tailor. It also lists all the descendants still living here in 1930. Sorry I couldn't find the burial records you are looking for. I'll keep watching for any information on Michael and Jane. Let me know if you want anything else. Jacqueline Munch jlmunch@earthlink.net

    3. Hi Jacqueline: I have had no other offers, so I would appreciate it very much if you would do this. I have about given up hope on Christine. She, and a Charles Gatliff as well as her Children and the Hart Families came early to Will Co. (1833-1834) She bought land in Blackstone's Grove in 1835. We feel very sure that she is buried in Will Co. unless she remarried and went by a different name. Thanks a bunch!-------Ron ----- Original Message ----- From: Jacqueline Munch <jlmunch@earthlink.net> To: <ILWILL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2002 3:46 PM Subject: [ILWILL] Hadley Cemetery/Ron Jost > Ron, > Several days ago you asked for a lookup in Hadley Cemetery records for > Christiana Gatliff or any Gatliff.
