    2. Dear Julie You might find the exact date by checking the Illinois Secretary of State site. It has a free index of deaths from 1916 to 1950. www.library.sos.state.il.us/home.html Good luck A Nelson > I am looking for the burial or death record of some sort of Henry T. 1. [ILWILL] Albert P. Stevens and Jerome P. Stevens
    2. I am seeking the middle name for Albert P. Stevens and Albert P. Stevens Jerome P. Stevens was the youngest son of Henry Kimball Stevens and Mary Ann Bissell Stevens of Joliet. He was born in Illinois about 1854. He was married to Clara Belle Jones in 1891 in Will Co. He was well known in Joliet, wealthy and influential and served on many community boards. He was a member of the Joliet or Will Co Country Club, on the board of Oakwood Cemetery, on a hospital board and others. Albert P. Stevens was the son of Henry Kimball Stevens and Mary Ann Bissell Stevens of Joliet. He was born in Michigan about 1841. Albert P. Stevens was married to Anna M. E. Harris in McClean Co, Illinois in 1868, after Albert came back from the Civil War (where he was a QuarterMaster). He was apparently well known for his love of horses. Neither obit for the above men mentions his middle name. It was given only as P. P could stand for PIERCE, PELEG, or PARTRIDGE. Pierce is the name of the probable brother (Pierce B. Bissell) of Mary Ann Bissell Stevens. Peleg is the first name of Henry Kimball Stevens' brother, Peleg Stevens of Kalamazoo, MI. Patridge is the middle name of Mary Ann Bissell Stevens' probable grandfather, John Partridge Bissell (surveyor of the Western Reserve). Because there are no early court marriage records in PA, where Mary Ann and Pierce were born, and there was no probate for their probable father, William Bissell, we only have circumstantial evidence connecting them to each other and to the family of William Bissell. The evidence, though circumstantial, is overwhelming, but we are seeking something that would definately link Pierce to Mary Ann...AND./or link them to the Bissell line we suspect. At least one of the two above men may have been middle named Pierce, and we would like to confirm that. It's the only thing we can find that would make the final link between Pierce and Mary Ann, as brother and sister. Thank you for any help. Julie Bissell Tupker

    1. [ILWILL] Stevens, Henry T/burial or death record
    2. I am looking for the burial or death record of some sort of Henry T. Stevens. He was the son of Henry Kimball Stevens and Mary Ann Bissell Stevens. The death had to be after 1926 because an obit for his younger brother says that Henry T. survived him. I would like to eventually find an obit for him in the paper, but I need a death date to work from first, unless he appears in a newspaper obit index at the library. Henry T. Stevens was born about 1845 and was married to Florence Knapp in Will Co. (daughter of Solomon Knapp) Thank you, Julie Bissell Tupker

    1. Re: [ILWILL] Madeleine F. Peters Brown
    2. Good Morning Lisa, The only information I have would be a listing of most of the cemeteries in Green Garden. I did see a few listings for surname PETERS with burials in nearby townships of Monee and Crete. The cemeteries I know off in Green Garden are: Green Garden Mehtodist(aka Andres)section 19 located on the west side of IL rte 45. Rosehill-section 4-on Stuenkel Rd. St. Peter's Evangelical-section 12-SE corner of 80th Ave. and Stuenkel Rd. Twining-section 17-on Dralle Rd. Union-section 14-on Manhattan/Monee Rd & 80th Ave. Green Garden township doesn't have any towns in it. The closest libraries would be located in Monee,Crete,Peotone and Manhattan. You might check with them. Good Hunting, Kathy > >Hello! I am looking for the burial place of Madeleine F. Peters. According to a family letter, she was buried in a cemetery in Green Garden. Here is another possibility... a "Fredk. Oldendorf" enumerated in 1850 in Addison township in Dupage county. Perhaps your ggg grandfather had not yet moved to Monee? Addison is not that far away. In any case, here is the household: Fredk. Oldendorf, 28, M, Farmer, born in Germany Sophia, 25, F, born in Germany Ann, 1, F, born in Illinois Henry Cropp (? handwriting hard to decipher), 41, M, Laborer, born in Germany H. Christ. Olchesking (? handwriting hard to decipher, 54, Farmer, born in Germany Could H. Christ. Ol-whatever have been Sophia's father? In any case, there are no sons in the household, and this Fredk. seems rather young to have had a son take over the farm by 1860. Could he be a Frederick junior? Anyway, just FYI. Elizabeth

This is a reprint of the original and may be a typos in the original or reprint. The other option is that these were spelling errors in the original county records. 3. Hi Cindi, 1.- IF that's Mt. Olivet cem.,Joliet that they are buried in: Contact Catholic Cemeteries Office(for Will County) 402 S. Independance Blvd.,Romeoville,IL (815)838-0395 They have index card file 1st by city, then cem.,then alpha by last name, etc. Ask if there are any others buried with them. Might give you some leads. 2.-Naturalizations: prior to about 1902-usually do NOT give exact location in Ire(or Wales). May give witnesses who could be relatives. Mormons have microfilmed northern district naturalizations(by time frame and alpha by name)would include 4 or 5 courts in Cook,Will County plus northern IL counties and some of Indiana. I found my grandfather by using these microfilms-naturalized in 1870's in Cook county court(one of the 4 or 5). 3.-Death certificates-prior to 1916-voluntary not required in any county of Illinois. Each county had their own death index usually starting late 1870's to 1915. Will County-checked the death index 1877-1915 for Michael & Jane TOOMEY and for the SULLIVANS,and two TOOMEY children. No entries, meaning no death certificate in Will County. You might want to contact the Will County Coroner's Office and see if they have a record. Occassionally, I have found that no deeath cert. was issued but there was a coroner's record. ONLY one I found that was close in Will County Death Index TOONEY,Tobias age 1yr6mo10days residence Joliet buried Mt. Olivet. COOK County-city of Chicago-Death records 1872+ An Index to Death records 1872+ been microfilmed by the mormons. Alpha by surname. I checked the Cook County Coroner's index 1872-1911 closest I came: TOOMEY Nora A. 28 MAR 1903 George 6 AUG 1905 No near matches to John SULLIVAN's death date. ILLINOIS State Death Index 1916-1950 SULLIVAN 3 Esther's listed all died Cook County various locations one Esteher age 90 died Cook Chicago in 1950. Did you check Chicago,Cook voters registrations on Ancestry.com? 1892 voters registration has 6 Michael Toomeys 2 of which look like possibles: res. name in precinct in county in state naturalized 48352 Haltsed 17mo 5yrs 5yrs 1888 Circuit Court-Cook 328 W. 15th St 11yrs 11yrs 11yrs 22Oct 1892 Circuit Court Cook 108 15th St. 25yrs 25yrs 25yrs 20Mch1860 other three early 1860's or b. MA. These voters registrations are not always accurate but might help. Have you checked the 1880 census up on the mormon website? just in case Michael came before 1881? I would check for 1880 Illinois,b.Ireland for him and for Jane DONOVAN b. Wales, etc. Mainly because naturalization process is a two step deal. First papers and final. Minimum time between 1st and final usually being 7 yrs+. Have you checked St. Patrick's Church,Joliet for marriage record and bapt. of kids? It was the first catholic church in will county. Records start about mid to late 1830's to current. Have you requested a search for obits-Joliet Public Library, downtown, reference dept.,contact Roger cost about $5.00 And last but not least- IF you have location of deaths: Check for probate records on all. probates in will county at clerk of the circuit court office, will county courthouse,14 west jefferson st.,joliet. Probates have what are called "proof of heirship" and/or letters of administration which can help genealogists a great deal with dates and places. Cook probate-may help: Clerk of the Circuit Court,Cook County Archives dept.,50 W. Washington St.,Chicago 60602 (312)603-6601 fax (312)603-4974 search fee was $9.00 per year in indexes. Informational uncertified copies;1st page $2.00,next 19 pages 50 cents each, remaining 25 cents each. OR the mormons have microfilmed indexes for Cook and Chicago. 1. [ILWILL] Toomey dillemma
    2. My Michael Toomey died March 13, 1905 and is buried with Jane in Mt Olivet Cemetery. She died March 26, 1903. My Michael Toomey was born in Ireland December 1861, and his wife, Jane Donovan was born May 1868 in Wales. She came to Joliet with her older sister Esther Donovan Sullivan and her husband John. Jane married Michael in Joliet September 15, 1887. According to the 1900 census, Michael came to the US in 1881. In 1900, he was a bartender living at 458 45th Street West, Chicago, Illinois. In the Joliet directories, I find Michael living at the same addresses of his future brother-in-law, John Sullivan. I have narrowed it down to TWO sets of John Sullivans & Michael Toomeys! Both Michael Toomey & John Sullivan seem to have these same characteristics: 1887 first entry res. 1008 Collins, laborer 1888 res., 915 Columbia-laborer 1889-1890,res. 915 Columbia, teamster 1891=res. 915 Columbia, works for Lambert & Bishop Wire Fence Co. AND 1891-res. 411 Elwood, works for IL Steel Co > My hope is to find the Naturalization papers, the death cert for Michael > Toomey & his brother-in-law, John Sullivan, who died August 02, 1902. 3 of Michael's children died: Michael d September 15, 1893 Hester d May 04, 1900 age 4 2 of their children lived: John b 1890 James (not the one born July 1887.) Could I learn how to get the death records of the babies before 1916, and of the Naturalization papers?

    1. Re: [ILWILL] Donovan-TOOMEY September 15, 1887marriage in Joliette
    2. Hi Cindi, You've got a real problem with the name Michael TOOMEY and Joliet. There are TWO Michael TOOMEY's of exactly the same age in the 1920 census One in Chicago age 55 b. Ire wife Anne,Michael naturalized 1891 the other Michael TOOMEY,Joliet, age 55,b. Ire wife Delia(nee Fahey married Will county 21 Apr 1891-just 4 yrs after the one you got). Joliet Michael came in 1890,naturalized in 1895. Then there's this Joliet City Directories 1884-1892 There appears to be two Michael Toomey's here also. 1887 first entry res. 1008 Collins, laborer 1888 res., 915 Columbia-laborer 1889-1890,res. 915 Columbia, teamster 1891=res. 915 Columbia, works for Lambert & Bishop Wire Fence Co. AND 1891-res. 411 Elwood, works for IL Steel Co. not to mention 1870 census chicago index lists THREE Michael TOOMEYs Might be hard to sort them out. You might have to get some death certs. or use other sources to pin point yours. The Irish in Joliet WHY? Joliet-earliest reason-1830's I&M canal built-they were cheap labor. ALSO WOOLEN MILLS same for RAILROADS(LATE 1840+) Coal Fileds near Joliet Steel Mills WHY-leave Ireland-biggest reason-poor country-then the potato famine. WHERE= from, any place in Ireland-companies used to advertise in Irish newspapers to get them to come here.Mainly in early 1800's-northern ireland-mid 1800's potato famine mainly southern ireland. HOW-early by walking across from Canada through WI or MI,by boat across great lakes from Canada or eastern states,,mid 1800's-by train, wagon, great lakes-any way they could. Hope this helps, If you have more specific info, I could try and help more. I have a suspicion my families lived here before they moved into Chicago where I found them in 1900. Does anyone on list have census or directory data for families of these two people? I believe Michael's father's name was James TOOMEY and he may have had a sister Kathryn TOOMEY who married an Edward WHITE. I expect that Jane Donovan lived with her sister, Esther Donovan, who married John Sullivan in Wales and had two daughters there. I am hoping to learn something about the Irish in Joliet--and where/how/why they settleds there. Regards, and hopeful for shared expertise--- Candi in California
