In 1998, the book could be purchased for $20 from the author. Becki Leucht, 403 N. Nappanee Point, Peoria, IL 61604-4219. It is spiral bound and contains a 1-page prologue, a 1-page table of abbreviations, 161 numbered pages (deaths from 1 to 110; marriages 111-148; births 149-161) and an unnumbered 16-page index. I do not know if the book is still in print or if a later version has been done. I do not know if the compiler has e-mail. According to the compiler's prologue, "I decided to write down all births, deaths & marriages that appeared in the various Grundy co. newspapers ... When I finished, my findings were quite small. For all the Grundy county marriages, I went to the courthouse and added the dates from the marriage records. A word of caution, not nearly all Grundy county marriages are included, just those that were in the newspapers." She mentions extracting Grundy residents from Wilmington papers, Braidwood papers, newspaper extracts of Will co. marriages of non-residents, deaths of those over 10 and non-residents from Yorkville & Ottawa newspapers. She notes that if a cite is not "documented," it is more than likely from a Morris or Wilmington paper. No source is specifically cited (in any remotely acceptable form that I could find) for any of the extracts. The nearest you will find is the town where a newspaper was published, not the masthead title and certainly not which issue date, whole number or page number. There is no indication of which newspapers were searched or what issues or years were reviewed. The compiler mentions going back to try to "document" her earliest extracts, but that she was unable to find them again. <sigh> The bottom line on this one is, even if you receive the information in the book, you won't have any idea of what newspapers were searched, how thorough the review was, what is available that was not included, etc. For the marriages, you will not know if the information is from newspapers or the courthouse. All that being said, I'll try to answer specific questions out of my copy. The only thing I can add is that Deaths start on page 1, Marriages on page 111, and Births (there aren't very many) on page 149. Hi Ve ! Might I please request a lookup in your index? For Will and Grundy Co, the SVARC or SWARTZ surname please. Thx Mike in AZ SWARTZ~SVARC / CERNY / HAJEK / HOSEK / KREISSINGER
Title of book is "Grundy, Will La Salle, Kendall counties, 1840-1879; deaths, marriages, births as extracted from area newspapers" compiled by Becki Leucht. I live in CA and only have the index which contains surnames and page numbers, no details on which county, whether death marriage or birth, or first names. I received the index through an interlibrary loan, (Gail Borden Library in Elgin) the book is probably a reference book at most libraries so no interlibrary loans but they probably will be willing to send you copies of the pages you request. I use this url for north suburban Illinois libraries. http://nsls-iol2.auto-graphics.com/wp2000/signin.asp?cid=nsls&lid=NSLS&mode=P
