    3. Dear Art, Are there any entries and/or information for the surname BRAIDWOOD. My Great Grandfather founded the town of Braidwood in Will County. He died in 1879, but had a dozen children, some of whom died in Braidwood area. A couple daughters and a son should have married in the time span mentioned earlier for this book. Even a little information could be a clue to more searches to make. Thanks, Robin > -----Original Message----- > From: Art H. 3. Thanks Art. I will look into this. My Aunt is in Peoria. I might add that if anyone is interested in having a copy of the "1878 History of Will Co. IL", there are some originals on websites....Barnes & Noble, Albris, etc. I stumbled on them searching for another out of print book. They are expensive and I assume they don't contain the index. ----- Original Message ----- From: Art H. To: ILWILL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 7:50 AM Subject: Re: [ILWILL] Will Co. D, B, M. & index In 1998, the book could be purchased for $20 from the author. Becki Leucht, 403 N. Nappanee Point, Peoria, IL 61604-4219. It is spiral bound and contains a 1-page prologue, a 1-page table of abbreviations, 161 numbered pages (deaths from 1 to 110; marriages 111-148; births 149-161) and an unnumbered 16-page index. I do not know if the book is still in print or if a later version has been done. I do not know if the compiler has e-mail. According to the compiler's prologue, "I decided to write down all births, deaths & marriages that appeared in the various Grundy co. newspapers ... When I finished, my findings were quite small. For all the Grundy county marriages, I went to the courthouse and added the dates from the marriage records. A word of caution, not nearly all Grundy county marriages are included, just those that were in the newspapers." She mentions extracting Grundy residents from Wilmington papers, Braidwood papers, newspaper extracts of Will co. marriages of non-residents, deaths of those over 10 and non-residents from Yorkville & Ottawa newspapers. She notes that if a cite is not "documented," it is more than likely from a Morris or Wilmington paper. No source is specifically cited (in any remotely acceptable form that I could find) for any of the extracts. The nearest you will find is the town where a newspaper was published, not the masthead title and certainly not which issue date, whole number or page number. There is no indication of which newspapers were searched or what issues or years were reviewed. The compiler mentions going back to try to "document" her earliest extracts, but that she was unable to find them again. <sigh> The bottom line on this one is, even if you receive the information in the book, you won't have any idea of what newspapers were searched, how thorough the review was, what is available that was not included, etc. For the marriages, you will not know if the information is from newspapers or the courthouse. All that being said, I'll try to answer specific questions out of my copy. Tricia M. ----- Original Message ----- From: JulieBskt@aol.com To: ILWILL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, December 25, 2002 12:54 PM Subject: [ILWILL] 1880 Sellinger I checked the 1880 LDS transcription of the 1880 census and found the following: Herman Sellinger Butcher age 25 Prus Prus Prus Eva wife 28 Prus Prus Prus Herman other 4 months Ill Prus Prus Normally, I would expect little Herman to be the son of Herman Sr and wife, Eva. However, his relationship to the head of household is listed as ~other~. Since he is evidently named after the head of household, he surely would either be his son...OR...an orphaned nephew named after Herman Sr. But...he could just as well have been an orphaned baby they took in and renamed...and weren't officially yet calling him their son. If little Herman was a Nephew, or step son, the designation should have said that instead of ~other~, which was given to unrelated outsiders in the household. Still...mistakes happened in all census data...so he could still have been their blood son, and the census taker just got it wrong. This was the only entry in Will Co for Sellingers...though there were several in Cook Co, nearby....and there were a good amount scattered around the state...some down in St. Clair Co , across from St. Louise...and Montgomery Co as well as a few other locations. Hope this helps. Julie Bissell Tupker ==== ILWILL Mailing List ==== Will Co, IL website address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwill/ Email listowner @ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwill/my-email.htm

    1. Re: [ILWILL] Veloyce S. - Will Co. D, B, M. & index
    2. I looked here & found 300 Soderlunds (that did include other counties though). There were lots of Barz also. www.library.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/idphdeathsrch.html You might also check with Michelle Houchens at Three Rivers Library, PO Box 370, Minooka, IL 60447 (815-467-1600) THIS IS AN OLDER EMAIL mhouchens@starbase1.htls.lib.il.us Wilmington Library has all obituaries for the Wilmington Advocate indexed by name & microfiched 201 S. Kankakee Street, Wilmington, IL 60481. The South suburban Geneology society has the cemetery indexes for the south suburbs and I do remember it having Mokena. You could also check with them. There seemed to be only 2 men who worked there and they have limited hours but were also very helpful and nice. There is a link to them thru rootsweb. They are in South Holand, IL Mokena is just west & south. I don't know if they will do lookups on the microfiche, but they were very nice & might give you the info off the card. Usually the cards showed the date the article was in the paper and sometimes showed the spouse's name. Good luck A. Nelson > Hi Ve, > > By any chance, is this book still in print? 1. Re: [ILWILL] wenberg 1920 census
    2. from genealogical and biographical record of Will co 1900 Alfed Wenberg born near Boros,Sweden April 25 1858 came to America in 1880. His brother John came to America in 1869 but returned in 1874. He was one of 5 sons and three daughters,of whom all the sons and one daughter came to America. The oldest brother ,on coming to America, adopted the name of Wenberg, which the others assumed. The father,Andrew Johnson, owned an estate in Sweden, where he died. The mother Britta, was a daughter of Lars Hessleholmer,a large farmer. She is now living in Joliet, where she is known as Mrs. Wenberg, the name taken by her sons.
