Can anyone tell me how to get some archive queries before I joined the list?
Thank you for your response about the photography studios? Yes, I presume that is what it was as I have a lot of pictures of my family taken there. I was wondering if they were still in business, maybe I could get some names to match the pictures but I guess that is out now. Again, many thanks, have a nice holiday.

Ed, Sorry about that. I just started using "Guard Dog " and must not know how! From: edward <[email protected]> Subject: Gdog--where are you--CARNEY, KEARNEY I tried to respond to >[email protected], got a failure msg. Please respond. Ed Thank you for your response. The first three are the folks I am working on. Elizabeth m 2d Thomas ALLEN 6-17-1988 in the First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington IL. In the St.Gabriel's Church marriage records I found Elizabeth CARNEY m Wm. J.Lawler 4-29-1896, no witnesses. You might want to order the marriage certificate filed with Will Co in order to get the names of the witnesses. Do you know how to do that or care? But I don't know if that is her. My problem is that there is no date or burial surname for Elizabeth on the stone or in the cem. records for Mt.Olivet Cem., Braidwood. Do you have access to any resource that will help me there. Sorry, but I don't. My research in Will Co is solely in Joliet. But considering the date of this CARNEY/LAWLOR (1896) marriage it would seem that this could be a daughter of one of the CARNEY/McDERMOTTs. A sister to the Ann CARNEY CLAREY who married John LAWLOR in 1887? I'm assuming it was Ann's second marriage. Could John and William be brothers? Another case of sisters marrying brothers. Ann MCDERMOTT KEARNEY d 6-22-1902 in Wesley Hosp., Chicago and, to the best of my knowledge was m always to Edward KEARNEY. Ann is bur in the Braidwood plot with Elizabeth and their mother Margaret "MCDERMITT"(MCDERMOTT). The plot was bought in 1889 by Edward KEARNEY for the burial of Margaret. If only the stone or the records were more complete, I would be all set. Strangely, I have not found the burials of Edward, Hugh, Thomas, or William. Where were they in 1900? Could the whole family have moved to Chicago (are they brothers?) and be buried in Cook Co? Could Edward have married again and be buried with his second wife? Here are some additional KEARNEY marriages I found for Will Co: Ann KEARNEY m. John CUNNINGHAM 21 May, 1868 Catherine KEARNEY m. James KANE 15 Feb 1863 James KEARNEY m. Minnie COPEL 1 Nov 1897 John KEARNEY m. Mary Ann Ryan 5 Jan 1863 Margaret KEARNEY m. James FINNEGAN 25 Dec 1872 (Mrs.) Sarah MAXWELL KEARNEY m. Jonathan WASHBURN 27 Mar 1878 Also: John KERNEY m. Mary Ann McDERMITT 27 Jun 1872 James McDERMOT m. Margaret POWERS 22 Feb 1844 (your Margaret?) If you'll privately email me your snail mail address, I'd be happy to send you hard copies of what I've found. I ran McDERMIT, McDERMOT, LAWLER, LAWLOR, CARNEY, KERNEY and KEARNEY. I didn't find an ANN CARNEY marriage to ? CLAREY. Wait... Ann KARNEY m. John CLARY 14 Sep 1876, Will Co. She's the only in Will Co with that spelling. Good luck! Susan
Hi Tanna, Here are some first names to go with the rest. Unfortunately I don't have very many. My grandmother was Mary Luella Mideke and her sister Edna Mideke, born 1884 and around 1901. I'm not sure when they moved to Freeport, so my grandmother may still have been in Joliet in 1900. I have no first name for their parents, only their mother's maiden name was Peters. At this point any info on the Mideke family would be appreciated since I haven't even found the name in any lists. There seems to have also been an "Annie Konkrite" somewhere in the family. Spelling is mine. On the Seitz side, my grandfather was Fred Seitz and I believe his father's first name was August. I have no other names of mothers or siblings. It's very kind of you to look these things up for me. Thanks very much. Let me know if I can do something to return the favor. You never know what I can do here in Holland! Thanks again, denise

Do you have any first names for these surnames. Also, how about the 1900 census? Would they still be located in Joliet? I'll try to go there next Saturday. Tanna

Does anyone have any Delancy's in Will County circa 1855-1856. I am looking for the parents of my ggg grandmother Mary E. Delancy b. abt. 1836 NY married in Will County to Henry Hogel Burns 8-19-1856. I have absolutely nothing on her family so anything would help. Thank you Earliene Kaelin [email protected]
I am searching for information on the Burns family from NY. My g.g. grandfather was: Henry Burns b. 1820 NY (we think Albion in Orleans County) m/ Mary E. Delancy 8-19-1856 Will County, IL He lived in Will County, IL circa 1860, Found in Sheridan , KS 1880, dies in Sangamon County 11-16-1901 I think his brother was a Richard b. 1810 NY as they are found close to one another on every census I have seen. The following is from the 1860 Census Will County, IL. Burns, Richard age 50 b. NY Nancy wf age 46 b. NY Dennis wm age 14 b. NY George wm age 3 b. IL Burns, Henry wm age 43 b. NY Mary E. wf age 24 b. NY Rositti (Rosetta) M. wf age 3 b. IL Mary E. wf age 1 b. IL Henry's children were as follows: Rosetta M. b. 1857 IL m/ John Dugan Mary Eliza b. 4-25-1859 m/ John Curtiss Scott John A.M. b. 1864 Adrian Michigan m/ Delcena Adams William E. b. 1866 IL. Albert Henry b. 4-13-1868 d. 10-16-1933 m/ Winifred Glaze (my g. grandfather) Arthur A. b. 4/1874 IL. d. 1926 Thomas C. b. 1878 Kansas m/ Blanche ???? Frances b. ??? m/ John Dixon Richard Burns names his son Dennis and this leads me to believe that the following could either be brother to Richard and Henry. I would love to have information on him: Buried in Texas Christian Cem. DeWitt County, IL Burns, Dennis d. 7-28-1874 78y1m1d Sally wife of Dennis d. 8-18-1876 74y14d Henry and Richard lived in this area at this time. Would someone check the Sangamon Cemetery records for Henry and Mary? Will County for their marriage record? Any help will be appreciated. Earliene Kaelin [email protected]
To the List: I am still struggling with my CARNEY/KEARNEY relatives, married to MCDERMOTT sisters, who were in Braidwood IL in the 1880s and In the Canaryville area of Chicago by 1900. I have a stack of material on the surnames, but can't sort it out. ALLEN, CARABINE and possibly LAWLER are also involved. I have not found any living relatives to date. Really need to make the connection. Would appreciate any suggestions on locating them. Ed Broecker
By the way, the BEST way to trace this family is through the U.S. census records for Illinois. One might check the 1880, but not spend enormous amount of time due to the possibility that they didn't arrive yet. The 1890 census doesn't exist. So the 1990 census should show the son's family. If so, the 1910 and 1920 census should also be searched for, and likely found. Anyone know if Illinois had a special 1895 state census???? Often the census has their address, especially if they lived in or near the city itself. The next "best" place, and maybe easier, to look in city directories for Joliet. Maybe there is some kind sole that lives near a library that has the old Joliet city directories and can scan them starting around 1775 through whenever the name stops. Sounds like you're writing from Denmark???? Joliet is a major city in Illinois, southwest of Chicago, and the county seat for Will County. When the address has a "box" number or "P.O." (post office) number, that usually means the person goes to the post office and picks up their own mail in a small mail box with that number .... so there is no real "address". Some people today use such mail boxes so that people DON'T know their address. But back then, it might have been the only choice available. Delivery to everyone's house might not have been available in the 1880s.
