    3. Greetings from Canada, I have but recently discovered that a branch of my Folkers family came to and continues to reside in the Frankfort, IL area, this dates back to 1849 when one Johnson Folkers, then age 13 came to America with an Uncle, Diedrich Brumund to the Frankfort, IL area. Johnsons father and my GGrandfather Peter Folkers were brothers, their father Frank T. (and the T. is very important because of other Folkers with Initials very similar) the T. standing for Theilen, followed with the other 4 children in 1852, his wife having died in 1843, Ostfriesland, Niedersachen, Germany. Presently, the families of Herbert P. Folkers of Frankfort, IL., and Frank Folkers of Chicago,IL., and other unknown Folkers, would be Johnson's descendents. Johnson Folkers, a civil war veteran, was a well known and very successful businessman of Frankfort, businesses which he passed on to his three sons. Looking for any information on these people or anyone who might be interested in Folkers research and of course descendents. Al Folkers Calgary, Alberta, Canada [email protected]

    2. Have an interesting tidbit about Palos Park. Would like photo of house mentioned if possible. Tidbit from obit of Mrs. Jesse Mains, granddaughter of Melancthon A. Powell. "Melancthon A. Powell, pioneer citizen, settled and named Palos Park. It was first called Orange, then because he had relatives in Palos, Spain he chose to change the name from Orange to Palos. The "Park" was added later. It was in his home the first public school was held and also the first post office of which he was the first postmaster. That house is still standing, but is now in the forest preserve area." The year of the article was about 1948. Margaret Merrill

Thanks, Maggie Hi! My mother-in-law belonged to the Royal Neighbors of America in Iroquois County, IL in the 1940s. It was an organization that sold life insurance. Sort of like the male Modern Woodsmen organization I suppose. I believe that the ladies got together, had meetings pot-lucks, parties, etc. She purchased life insurance policies from them for her son when he ws young and each of my young children. Don't know about the Good Luck Camp. Joanne in Orange County, CA

    2. Here is something I have in my notes since my ancestor Cornelius Covenhoven Van Horne was mentioned. I thought it might be of help or interest to someone. 1. [ILWILL-L] ARMOUR, UPDIKE
    2. Hello Everyone! I am descended from Abner G. UPDIKE and Elizabeth ARMOUR who were married in Will Co. in July 1888. Andrew ARMOUR was Elizabeth's father; Mary GILMOUR was her mother. Elizabeth, or "Lizzie"(actually Britannia Elizabeth Findlay Armour - named after the ship "Britannia" that she was born on en route from Glasgow to USA), moved from IL to Canada in 1911 after Abner's departure to Texas in October, 1907. I have some info on Armour family and lots on Updike family. I would like to share my info with anyone; I would especially like to make contact with anyone else who is connected with Abner and Lizzie. I have a couple of "brick walls" in my research, and am hoping that someone out there has the info I need. Merry Christmas to all from Saskatchewan, Canada! Regards, Dale Updike (Ryburn R., Abner G., Elijah A., Abraham G., etc.)
