Hello Will County folks... I am transcribing a Civil War diary from my g-grand uncle (John Quincy Adams KING) and my g-grand father (Henry Clay KING). As I go thru the passages he sometimes mentions events that happen in Joliet. I would love to know more about and include as a sidebar to the diary. For example: "February 22, 1864 - At the recruiting office early in the forenoon. In the afternoon went over to the Court House to hear Speaking by the most prominent Citizens of Joliet." Question: Is there a research source for Will County or Joliet newspapers at this period of time available? Thanks-- Aleita King Concord, CA
Hello Will County Reasearchers! Are there any Mottinger, Hartong or Hahn connections out there? Priscilla Caris
Hello, My grandfather was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1857, and on the census records for 1860, Will County he was two years old. On his marriage certificate, he states he was born in Cook County. I thought that in 1857 Joliet was in Will County. Am I wrong? Etta in Oregon
Hi everyone, I am searching for someone with information on either John or Elon VIRGIL who lived in Will Co., Illinois. John is listed in the 1860 census living in Plainfield and Elon is living in Du Page. I also found both in Erie County, New York in the 1850 census. I am not related to the Virgils, however in the 1860 census, my ggg grandfather Peter POMEROY is living in John VIRGIL's household, obviously learning the 'wagon making' trade from him. I am trying to search for information to see if Peter came with the Virgils from New York.. I am hoping there is a descendant of the VIRGIL's reading this list that could help me by telling me when they arrived in Illinois. Thanks Carol Ann

Hi, According to family history, my grandfather, (unknown) SIMMONS was killed in a hunting accident in 1868 or 1869. He was with a Mr. Wheeler and Mr. Storey.
