These folks got married on 1 Jan 1868, now I just received a copy of their marriage certificate and application for marriage. Did not give me the info I was seeking. Could there be perhaps a newspaper announcement of their wedding? Anyone have some suggestions where to look. Am seeking Lucilia's parents. Thank You Judy
I am searching for any information on the WELTER and MUELLER(MILLER) families that were in Will County Illinois, possibly as early as 1840, but the only sure thing is that Christian Mueller was there at the start of the Civil War. I am hoping that he and wife, Elizabeth Welter are possibly in the 1850 or 1860 census records. Any help on these people would be greatly appreciated. Sansu
Hello Dave. May I impose on you also for a look-up in the 1860 census for Will County? I am searching for information for JAMES CARROLL, 1826-1890. He married MARY CRILLIE, 1839-1921, abt 1854, possible in Lock Port, Will Co. Ill. We know that they were living in Lock Port when the first two children were born; PETER, 1855, and Thomas,1859. By September, 1861, they had move just a few miles away to Lemont, Cook County, Ill. In 1870, they moved to Abilene, Dickinson County, Kansas, where most of the family is buried today. They were Roman Catholic. Any information would be helpful and appreciated. James and Mary's parents, siblings, where did they come from, etc. Best regards, Hugh Jefferson Dallas, Texas
Hi Dave. We've communicated before and you were kind enough to pass me the information I was looking for, indeed the transcription of the 1860 census. Now I'm looking for a newspaper announcement to verify that the census record is positively who I'm looking for since there is a (hopefully) a slight mispelling, in the transcription at least (Willard vs Millard). Thank you for your kind offer though. Cheers, jj > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [SMTP:[email protected]] > Sent: Thursday, November 18, 1999 4:17 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: newspaper search >
Jeff, I have access to a transcription of the 1860 census. If you give me your ancestor's full name, I can check the census for families of the correct surname, with a child of the appropriate name and age....Just a warning though, I don't know exactly when I will get to the LDS library (probably after Thanksgiving)... Does anyone know the name & have the address & tele. # for the cemetery near the Joliet Municipal airport? [email protected] Sue, I believe the cemetery you want is the Woodlawn Memorial Part at 23060 W. Jefferson St. The telephone number is 815-725-1152. [email protected] Rodger, I don't know where you are, but this info may be helpful: [Warning: Dont call Mental Health Services in Will Co. for answers to MH Questions. That would be silly!] Joliet Jr. College Librarian, Barbara Wilson was very polite & helpful, even made a call for info. [815-729-9020] Phone No. Will Co. Hx Soc. [815-838-5080] Joliet Hxical Society, closed until 12-1-1999, phone 1-815-722-7003. Wilson determined that Joliet Public Library has an Obit & Genealogy section headed by a gentleman named Roger, [815-740-2666, after 12:30 PM]. Though section is not too well kept up, he is helpful. While he was checking his sources, Roger referred me to Dr. Robert Sterling, a prof at JJC, who was in when I called. He did not return my call yet, but will write when he does. Roger was not immediately aware of such an institution in Joliet, but reminded me that Kankakee did have a mental health unit, & a State Hospital existed in Manteno (both sites in Will Co.) until the recent past. I was advised 1. Re "Insane Asylum" in Joliet, 1925-1936: There were both a Will Co. Sanitarium & Sanitorium in Joliet in this time period. In 1929 the Sanitarium was changed to the Will Co. Tuberculosis Sanitorium for the aged & orphans as well as ill. he identified in 1917 a Co. Farm which took in paupers. 2. Possible burial info: All of these sights probably had their own pauper's field or cemetery. Hope the above helps. God Bless You & Yours, Walter McElligott Researching the Hx of Peotone, Will County, Illinois (1856-2000 AD)
Does anyone on the list have access to Joliet newspapers/microfilm from early August 1882? Or know where I could get access? I'm looking for any article on a street car accident, killing 7-year-old Edward Chesnut. Thanks in advance, Jan Rader Kent, Ohio
Rodger; I am not sure about the insane asylum but have heard of it. Joliet has always been a large city and she was probably buried n a cemetery asociated with her religion. Most were back then. You might try the very abbreviated cemetery list on the Will county site. I know my relatives were buried at the Lutheran cemetery associated with the church they attended. Bob Krieger
Hi! I'm new to the list, and have a couple of questions to ask. I just learned that my ggmother was committed to an "insane asylym" in Joliet, Il, sometime between 1925 and 1936. I am assuming now that she died there. Does anyone know what the name of this institution might be, where it is located, is it still there, etc. Also, assuming she was buried there, what cemetery would she have been taken to? Thanks in advance for all your help. Rodger
