Sorry I don't have the lady's name who asked about a certain place in Will Co., but I just talked to Bob Sterling, an author of local hxs. He said the only thing he could find was a Co. Poor Farm in the Joliet area. Indigent persons worked an actual producing farm in the 20s & 30s in return for room & board. He agreed that mentally handicapped may have been included in those who for one reason or another couldn't care for themselves & turned up on the farm. Location: McDunnough St, Joliet. He & I suggest contacting Will Co. for possible lists of residents. It's also possible that the reference you have is to the Manteno St. Hospital, closed appx early 1980s. Good luck with Manteno. They wouldn't even confirm that my great uncle was a resident there (the family visited). Claim they need a court order to open file.

Also, in the last couple of weeks I have checked many names on the IL Archives Site and have had an amazing number of hits. I tried ten successful hits on Ancestry.com with 0 results. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: 11/21/99 11:21 AM Subject: Re: [ILWILL-L] Illinois Marriages Same information is available from the state of IL on line 365 days a year FREE.

Hi there, Cook County is just north of Will County and Jo Daviess is way up in the NW corner bordering Wisconsin and Iowa. So possibly your WELTER family was in Cook. My family straddled the line in Steger which is partly in Cook and partly in Will, Sharon in Surprise, AZ http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/a/l/Sharon-H-Galitz/index.html http://home.switchboard.com/shgalitz
Sansu, I checked the 1850 IL Census and found 5 WELTER families: Christian, James, Max, Richard and William. Which one are you looking for? None were in Will Co. Christian, James, Richard and William were in Cook Co and Max was in Jo Daviess Co. There is a Christian MILLER is listed on Film 133, Page 41, which is Plainfield, Will Co, IL. This Christian MILLER was a 13 year old born in Ohio and living with Daniel Vandersole, a 24 year old farmer, his wife Margaret, 20, and son Jacob S., 1. Could this be your Christian MUELLER? Hope you find this info useful. I am looking for advice on where I can look for a report, article, or record of a murder of a farmer in 1853-1854. His name was Alexander Cash, and according to family stories; Story 1) Alexander was murdered returning home from Will County, Indiana, after driving a team of oxen to market. Story 2) Alexander was murdered for his team of oxen in Will county. I am trying to find the "real" answer to this mystery. Does anyone have any advice where I could find records about this crime in the 1850's in Will County? Erin
