In the last few weeks there have been a few messages on one or more lists that have nothing to do with Genealogy. I don't want to be a scrooge, but the purpose of these lists (ILBOND-L, ILCLAY-L, and ILWILL-L) is to discuss genealogy for Bond, Clay and Will counties in Illinois. If you have a problem with what someone does post to the list, please either reply to that person privately, or send me a message. I will contact those people privately if they are not staying on topic, and remove their ability to send messages, if necessary. Please don't send messages to the list to wish everyone greetings, but if you are sending a message on genealogy feel free to attach a brief greeting, if you'd like. Please reply to me privately at [email protected] if you have any comments about this memo, unless you feel that the entire 100+ people on each list would benefit from your note. Thank You and Happy Holidays, Ted Cash, listowner.
Sorry, Sue. I can't help. If you run into Beechers (my grandfather's family), let me know. Good luck. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, December 14, 1999 8:41 AM Subject: [ILWILL-L] Degil / Koppelman / Kohlhagen >Hadley Cemetery Homer Twp., Will Co., IL Cemetery book has a listing for - >Dorothea _______ of John DEGIL (probably should be wife of ) >nee KOPPELMAN >geb - 26 June 1830 & gest 6 April 1873 > >I am trying to figure out how she is related to my gg grandmother Dora >(KOPPELMAN) KOHLHAGEN (1819-1890) who is buried in the plot next to her. > >Also buried in this plot are Fritz KOPELMAN (1825-1891) & his wife Mary >(1835-1873). Hello, i'm trying to determine what happened to my relatives James Worrell Barr and wife Louisa Britt Barr. They were living in Joliet, IL, by c. 1950 and still there in 1963. A cousin thinks Louisa died in Arizona about 1968, but I can find no record of it. Are there Joliet city directories I could get anyone to check? Is there a cemetery where they would likely be buried? I have a death date (not sure of the source) for Louisa; the cousin said she died in Arizona, but the folks in Arizona could find no record of it. Perhaps since she had lived in Joliet for so long, there was an obituary there? Louisa Britt Barr, daughter of Joseph E. Britt SR (d. 1958) and first wife Zennie McGee Britt (d. 1912), was born in Georgia in 1906. I have record of her in Joliet from obituaries in 1954, 1958, and 1963, and from a deed in 1958/59. Her brother died childless, and her father's obituary mentions several grandkids (no names), so I presume she must have had children. I live in Georgia and so am quite a distance away. Can anyone suggest sources I could try or people I could contact? Most on-line records seem to be pre-1900, so I'm having a hard time finding these people (no luck with SSDI or switchboard). Thank-you for any help or suggestions, Sincerely, Danny Knight, LaGrange, GA
Would Michael Vidmar please contact me. He posted information about Emma in the Will Grundy Genealogical Society Autumn 1999, and I believe this is the sister to my Sophia Dirkes from Pecklesheim, Germany. I have lots on this side of the family. Hope to hear from you soon. Arlene [email protected]

Hi everyone, I have the autograph book that belonged to my great-grandmother, Alice Lillian RAY. Alice was born at Plainfield on 3 Sep 1859, and died at Rensselear, Jasper County, Indiana in 1944. The autograph book was given to her as a Christmas present on 25 December 1878. The book is brown, approx. 4 x 7 inches, and contains signatures dating into the early 1880's. In 1879, Alice attended North Western College at Plainfield. This institution was the predecessor of North Central College, now located at Naperville. The book contains several autographs of students at N.W.C., plus various family members and friends. I thought that by chance, the book might be beneficial to members of this list, in that it could possibly contain autographs of some of their ancestors. So, I decided to post the names, dates, and towns of the individuals who signed the book. I won't guarantee that I got the spellings absolutely correct, because the old script handwriting is difficult to read in some cases. If the spelling is questionable, I have put (sp?) to the right of the entry. Hopefully, this data might be of interest to some Will County researchers. A. W. For Your Information, If you haven't checked out the "Biographies" section of the Will Co, IL webpage, you might want to check it from time to time. Margie Glenn has volunteered to scan in portions of her copy of the book (from time to time) and send me the biographies. As I receive them, they will be posted on the website. About 2 weeks ago, several new bios were added to Joliet Twsp; today all of the bios were added for Lockport Twsp and Reed Twsp. Note: if you are searching and get to an entry that has a lot of surnames (more than six), look for a message that says something like "Names to be added:" --> This means that we have not yet entered the bios for these people. If others of you have books about Will Co that are more than 75 years old, and a scanner, please consider volunteering to improve the site with the information. Thanks to Margie -- and Thanks to all of you for helping to make it a better site. Comments are always welcome. According to Will-Grundy Counties, Illinois Genealogical Society Quarterly, Autumn 1999, Vol XVIII, No. 1, Giovanni Franco Tepatti married Emma Elizabeth Dirkes who is a sister to my ggg grandmother, Sophia Dirkes, from Pecklesheim, Germany. Could Michael Vidmar please contact me as I have more information on Dirkes family. Thank you Will-Grundy Co. Genealogy Society-for we have been looking for other members of this family. my gr grandfather died while working at a poor farm in iowa in 1888-sadly 70yrs later his son spent his last years in the very building that existed in the 1800's, only it was a "county facility" by then-still a dump. when mother and i stopped in 1997 at the courthouse, looking for records, we asked at the county relief office about any poor farm records-nice lady pointed at the wire cart in which old files were piled up-said county attny said to destroy them for lack of space-100 yr old records!-and she couldnt let us look at them because of confidentiality! told us our portion of the alphabet was already gone! but then she went in the back room and brought us-i still cant believe it-my greatuncles "dog tax" statements and a little bank folder with his name on it-gave us a middle initial we didnt have. by the end of the day we learned who his nieces were-one was that county's relief director for many years before her death!!! so i suggest contacting the county attny's office. they may have destroyed records or its confidentiality taken to the extreme! visit:http://community.webtv.net/web-angie/Webspinsters (always evolving)
