Hi Ida, The 1865 state census doesn't have any correspondong mortality census. It contains head of household name then lists all other members only in age groups as the 1840 federal census does. Kathy
I have just gotten information from Mt Olivet Cemetery in Aurora that Herman WARTENBERG's cause of death was electrocution on 19 August 1913 in Joliet. Would this be newsworthy in 1913? Maybe someone can tell me what newspaper might have carried a story like this in Will County in 1913. Thanks, Melissa
Looking for any information available on Burk(e) VanAlstyne/VanAlstine, who according to the 1878 edition of the History of Will County, "settled northeast of the Village of Channahon in 1835". It goes on to list Burke as still resident in the township, with his brother Isaac living in the village. Burke had a son, John, who married a Martha Hardy. Their daughter, Mary Zylphia, was my great-grandmother. I've come across various land deeds for Burke on the Internet, and also noticed one for a Russell Hardy, but don't know if he might be the father of Martha. Almost 20 years ago, I searched the cemeteries in the area and found Issac's grave. I also found gravesites purchased by Burke, but there were no markers, and the custodian was unable to tell me whether anyone was actually buried there. John and Martha eventually moved to Kansas, and I'm trying to pin down when that might be, and if they took Burke with them.
Hi, I noticed your queries about St. John's Church. I was able to locate a possible location for church records of my g-grandparent's marriage. They were supposedly married in 1869 in an Evangelical Lutheran church in Chicago. I contacted the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Archives and they were able to tell me what churches the records were moved to. As it turns the church now researching is at least the 4th church to possess the records from the original church. It is a UCC, not Evangelical Lutheran. So, perhaps the ELCA could help you. They can be contacted at 1-847-690-9410. Their fax is 1-847-690-9502. I do not know if they have an e-mail address, but their web site is www.elca.org. There may be a way to e-mail them from the site. Good luck, Adrianne Researching: AHLENSTORF, ASCHE, BEAL (BIEL), JARZEMBOWSKI, LOMASNEY, NALEPINSKI, PARCHMANN, REGAN, RONAN, SCHORLING, more.

I had not heard before about an Illinois census for 1865. Can someone tell me what information was given in that census? Also is there any special information for persons who died earlier in that year? Thanks, Ida
Kathy : I'm so new at this I didn't even know what the rest of the info was on the record -- Thank you again - it's people like you that keep us green horns straight- God Bless - Donna
Hi Donna, I went to LDS and checked-you didn't check far enough. you should have checked SOURCE of the record which is film#0884517 which turns out to be a submission of an individual patron(notoriously inaccurate) to the LDS between 1969-1991. So SOMEONE submitted that info about a 1832 it was not taken from a census of will county. Just because some info is up on LDS site doesn't mean it is accurate especially if it's a submission and not a vital record source. If the entry had same vital record or church record or something like that-then I would get that film and check it myself. Kathy
Kathy: I already had a Courtright lookup when they did the Markley-and they stated they didn't have anything on the Courtright's. When I checked with LDS report it had : CENSUS 1832 Will, IL I don't know if that was when he was born or what- I just went in under Dean Courtright again. Under the Title Events Census 1832 Will, Illinois Father: Samuel Courtright that's all it says - I'm at a loss - Thank you so much for your help- Donna
Hi Donna, Will county was NOT formed until 1836 and I am unaware of any census done in 1832. The illinois state census was done by the 5's for instance 1855 then 1865. The federal census are done by the 00's example 1800,1810,1820,1830 and so one. Will(formed in 1836) FIRST census would be 1840 federal-and kankakee(formed abt. 1857 from iroquois and will)first census was 1860. So what census in 1832 for will county are you talking about? Would love to see it if it exists. Are you in contact with Iroquois Genealogy society? They have LOTS of stuff and don't charge much for a search. If you want their website, contact me directly as this will county list will not accept link attachments. Kathy Zavada
Kathy - Thank you so much for your email - I am on the board for Ford/Iroquois/ Kankakee Counties - Just received the dates of the marrages of 6 Courtright's yesterday - Now I have to research the parents of William Dean and Sarah Ann - I have found on LDS file a Samuel Courtright and a son Dean Courtright - Census 1832 Will Co IL- Then I found a Abraham Courtright census 1827 Son William Courtright Keene Twp Coshocton Co OH I have speculated that they were born about middle 1840's - I know they were married 1865 in Kankakee Co IL and had at least one child there , Asa Ames Courtright b june 30 1867- I think the other 8 or 9 were born in Coffey Co Ks - around 1890 they migrated back to IL/IN- My Grandmother Lulu Amanda Courtright married Lorenzo H "Ren" Markley 1900 and settled in Iroquois Co IL- Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated- Everyone is so kind - Thank you, Donna retired to Alabama
Hi Donna, You should try Kanikakee County at least that's where samuel courtright married sarah ann rowe on 12 apr 1856 and william d. courtright married sarah ann flint on 26 aug 1865. There are 4 other listings for courtright marriages in kankakee and iroquois county you need to take a look at the illinois state marriage index which you can get to through will county website under resources also take a look at illinois public land sales. Courtrights bought a tremendous amount of land in iroquois county very early on(1832 through 1850's)and they came from vermillion county. There is nothing in will county that I could find but you never know. Try Kankakee and Iroquois. Kathy
I am seeking information on William "Dean" Courtright and Sarah Ann Flint - I have no dates of birth or death or marriage - I do show one child Asa Ames Courtright b1867 in Kankakee Co IL - the rest of the children were born in CoffeyCo Ks (1869- 1889) - They migrated to IL & IN. The 1832 Will Co Census shows Dean Courtright with father Samuel Courtright? Thank you so very much for any help anyone can give me - Donna

Earlier burial prior to about 1860 would have been in st. patrick's joliet or mt. olivet wilmington 3-tornado WHEN? this is tornado alley -this area has gotten them as far back as recorded white history goes. 4-st. patrick's of twelve mile grove records-has had several fires was a mission church of st. rose in wilmington from1855 through 1905 EXCEPT for 1874-1879 when it was served by priests from kankakee county st. joseph's church manteno. St. Rose was a mission church of st. patrick's in joliet before that and then follow the history of st. patrick's in joliet as listed above. Anything earlier is split between the diocese of vincennes indiana and diocese of peoria. First actual church building st. patrick's of twelve mile grove(wilton) was built in 1872 but as I have said they had several churches destroyed by fire as did st. rose in wilmington. Kathy
Would the person who was looking for Oldendorf information please contact me off list? Thanks, Pat Mount
Thanks for your information. Do you have Bob Degenkolb address or e-mail address? Again thanks for your help! Wm. Conrad had a store in Peotone for many years, went to school with my grandfather, etc. According to the foreword in his necrology he had collected lots of those names, etc. Those who didn't live in Peotone had roots in Peotone, went to school or church there, was married into a local family somehow. I bought a copy of the necrology from Bob last year and he still have a few copies left, about $10 including postage and that is his cost. I've been able to help many folks with this book. arlene
Thank you Kathy Appreciate your efforts and I will try the suggestions that I haven't done. I have a copy of the transcription of the Bohemian National Cemetary near Braidwood and will do look ups for those who have the need. Ray
I spoke with Mr. Degenkolb this morning. He has a few copies of the Conrad's Necrology of Peotone book left and will sell them for only $10.00. He can be reached at [email protected] I've placed my order today! Kathy S.
