I also found this in the "History of Whiteside County" by Bent/Wilson (1877), page 232, Historyof Hahnaman Township--Deer Grove: "The earliest settlers in Hahnaman were William Renner and family, who came from Pennsylvania in 1841, and settled at Deer Grove. Mr. renner died in 1859, at the age of 51 years, and was buried in Bureau county. He left eight children, five boys and three girls. Two of the former died while soldiers in the Union army....The widow Renner is still living in Hahnaman...." >From "A History of Whiteside County" by Bastian (1968), Hahnaman Township, page 271: "The first settler was William Renner and family. They made their claim in what was later called Deer Grove in 1841-1842. They remained for a while and then removed to Bureau County only to return to Hahnaman Township later."
