Christine, The highway I to which I am referring I believe is Highway #84 which runs along the Mississippi River the full length of Whiteside Co. It is only known as Waller Road in Whiteside Co. It goes through Port Byron, Cordova, E. Clinton, maybe Fulton, Albany, Savannah from what I can see. I have Waller friends in Rock Island Co (family goes back generations) and they say they have wondered for years why this section of Highway 84 is named Waller Road..and just in Whiteside Co. Does anyone have the reason behind the name? We sometimes in small towns name them after some one who once lived there. We have a Pichena corner but the people have not lived there for decades> This could be one reason. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christine Walters" <chrisw1940@yahoo.com> To: <ILWHITES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2004 11:13 PM Subject: Re: [ILWHITES] WALLER ROAD Whiteside county > Julie,, > > Okay - I do know the Highway you are talking about but I have no idea why its called > Waller Rd.. In 1860, there was a HENRY WALLER in Sterling, Whiteside Co. In 1900 there was a FRANK H. WALLER in Morrison, Whiteside Co., and a JAMES G. WALLER in Ustick Twp., Whiteside Co., which is right near the river near Fulton. Maybe they're the ones the road was named after !
