Hello all, Was there a town, township, post office or settlement by the name of 'Empire' in Whiteside County in the 1860's? Thanks, Kathryn Sterling Herrmann
Yes~According to the "History of Whiteside Co., Ills" by Bent-Wilson (1877) "The township of Erie ....upon the south and east is skirted by Rock river, the borders of the stream being fringed by timber of a fine quality. Rock Island county borders the township on the west and Newton and Fenton townships on the north. Erie Lake, a considerable sheet of water, as fair as a picture, lies just north of the village of Erie." Are you looking for a specifice family there?
