Illinois Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Whiteside/751 Surname: Bailey, Jenkins, Genkins ------------------------- There are several Bailey families in Whiteside, but Alexander and Mary J. Bailey first appear on the 1880 census in Hopkins Twp. There are a few other Bailey's in Hopkins also. To get a better fix on the family I checked back to the 1870 and 1860 census...didn't help much, but will post the results: 1860 Hopkins Twp. Job Bailey 25 M PA Farm Laborer appears in the household of James McCanley 38 M VA Farmer and Family. 1865 State Census Hopkins Twp. Levi Bailey with family (8 total) Job Bailey with family (3 total) 1870 Hopkins Twp. Baley, Jacob 40 M PA Farmer Samuel 19 M PA Farm laborer Genkins, Sarah 53 F PA Baley, Mary J. 13 F PA 1880 Hopkins Twp. Bailey, Jacob M 52 S(ingle) Farmer PA PA PA Jenkins, Sarah F 63 W(idow) Sister PA PA PA Fooken, Katie F 14 S GR GR GR Wink, Thomas M 26 S Farmlaborer PA PA PA Bailey, Frances F 17 S Servant PA PA PA appeared in the household of Henry Gerdus and family. Bailey, Alexander M 34 M Farmer PA PA PA Mary J. F 20 M Wife PA PA PA There may or may not be a relationship between these, but since they are all from PA, I included them. 1890 Tax Role, Jacob Bailey paid both RE and PP taxes in Hopkins Twp. Alex Bailey, Hopkins tax was paid by S. Bailey, Galt. In 1900 in Hopkins Twp was only one Bailey household. Bailey, Alexander M 46 M Merchant PA PA PA Mary F 38 M Wife PA PA PA Frank M 19 S Son Merchant IL PA PA Summary...Jacob would be the right age to be the father to Alexander, but he is not shown with a wife, and since he is shown as SINGLE in 1880 while his sister Sarah is WIDOWED, that would imply he was NOT WIDOWED, and prob. never married. So...it may be coincidental that two Bailey families from PA settled in Hopkins. I checked cemetery records in Hopkins, Morrison, etc. but did not find anything on the above. Not sure if any of this will help, but good luck! Bob
