I'm looking for information on the parents of Emma Jane Patch, born November 9, 1853, in Whiteside County. She died in 1918 and is buried in Jefferson County, KS. We think her father was Martin S Patch born c1828, but these folks seem to be elusive. Her mother may have been a Margaret or Martha Fones, but I think Emma's mother died when Emma was very young, and Martin may have remarried. Family tradition says that when Emma was two years old, she was living with her Fones grandparents and that Grandpa once took her to the Lincoln-Douglas debates, which she remembered mostly because he upended a barrel for her to sit on while he listened to the speeches. Is anybody following the Patch & Fones families? Do these folks sound familiar? Jan T
