He married Harriet Mariah Barzee in Sterling, Whiteside County, IL in June of 1846. I requested a copy of their marriage certificate in the hopes that his age or birthplace or parents' names would be listed, but no such luck. I have quite a bit of information about Harriet, but next to nothing on James. Census records for his son (my G Grandfather William Harris) have shown James' place of birth variously as Tennessee, Illinois and USA, so I can't seem to track him down. His marriage certificate states that he is a resident of Whiteside County in 1846, so perhaps he was born there (or close by)? James and Harriet had 4 children that I know of, all supposedly born in Illinois: Andrew J. (born 1848); William Henry (born 1852); John F. (born 1856); and Clara A. (born 1862). HELP!! Is anyone connected to this family? Can anyone tell me what else to try in my search for James? I live in California, so looking information up in Illinois state archives or local libraries is somewhat problematic. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
