Hello List - I have a chance to be in Whiteside County for about 2 days at the end of the month and would like to do some research on 2 of my family lines - Smedley and Martin. I would like to spend the time at a library but am not sure which has the best resources for Whiteside County? Morrison? Sterling? Any suggestions? Appreciate it. Kathryn Hier Banos Spring, Texas
Kathryn, Odell Public Library in Morrison has a genealogy room with many resources. I have been there only twice, but found much valuable information in an index to Whiteside Co. marriage licenses 1839-1916, newspaper marriages and obits 1908-1930, indexes and extracts of US and state censuses of Whiteside Co., county cemetery records, 1890 tax list, Whiteside Co. Civil War lists, and much more. Perhaps others on this list can name more important resources. I don't know about resources in Sterling.
