From "A History of Whiteside County" by Wayne Bastian (1968): page 393-394~ "The City Court of Sterling was instituted on June 6, 1910. The new court had domain over circuit court cases but was limited in jurisdiction to the city of Sterling. Judge Henry C. Ward presided at the opening of the curt and afterward. The offices were located in the City Hall.... There was also a master in chancery at the Sterling court. His duties were the regular ones of the office but were limited territorially. John Stager was the first master." page 413~"In May, 1912, the City took o er the hospital and changed its name to Sterling Public Hospital. The first board of directors included H. H. Wood, John M.
