Also, we have a site member that does transcriptions of the old Tampico Tornado Newspapers as well as other historians that monitor the site. I don't have your original msg in front of me to recall the time-frame of your person - I think it may be before the Tornado existed. Have you checked the (4) cemetery listings on the site? You didn't leave the original message attached so I'm not sure what you are asking about - but if you are referring to the Tampico Historical Society website at http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/page/page/22555.htm you will find a mountains of information. The menu is to the left of all the pages - can't miss it. Denise has Photos, Township History, Cemetery listings, Message Board, and Bios to name a few.. I'm always sending people to her site.. its the best on the net for Tampico and related info. What is your name? July 30, 1822 - Feb. 23, 1887---age 64y,6m,23d...... from the book: "About Sept. 1, 1876 a new board of trustees was selected by the people of the community to erect a new Church Building"....."Three years prior to this, Robert Anderson and wife had deeded two and one half acres of ground in the southwest corner of Section Twelve, being across the corner from the church, for cemetery purposes. The following Trustees elected for the new church were also made the trustees of the cemetery viz; Archibald Maxwell, David Anderson, Nelson Kidder, John Jacob, Henry Hay, Ruben Warner and Isaac Burger." (Isaac Burger is my gggg-grandfather)..."The deed to the cemetery lot was given to the trustees of The Methodist Episcopal Church on April 2, 1869, and by them deeded to the new board of the Union Church on Sept. 23, 1876." As you can see, the date April 2, 1869 and the section about "three years prior" do not match up, but still a very interesting piece of history. Also, one of the acknowledgements in the book is: notes kept by Agnes L. Anderson on her family and friends. The Whiteside County Genealogists may be able to give you more info than I have available from the Cemetery Records.

Will put the book on my purchasing list. Thanks Amy

No! Marilyn Anderson is correct. To find a will for a decedent one must search the indexes for the probate or administrations of the jurisdiction in which the will may have been probated. Additionally, there may have been an administration even if the deceased left no will. The administration could have taken place either in the county in which the deceased was domiciled at the time of death, in the county in which the death occurred or in the county where property of the deceased was located. Typically, if there was little or no property, there would have been no administration whether or not the deceased left a will; however, if the deceased left children under the age of 18 (16 in some jurisdictions, 21 in others) there may have been guardianship proceedings in the probate, the "orphans" or the county court. The administration could have taken place as long as four years after death. The exact date of death is not required for making a search, but it is important to know the earliest date on which the death could have occurred in order to know at what date the search of the indexes should begin. Chris, She was old, I would think they would have, during this time frame, let her die at home. She was 60+ in the 1880s census. Amy

Amy .. Do any of those dates coincide with the tombstone dates. It was not uncommon for a person to die in Cook Co and be buried in Whiteside. Not knowing the date may prove difficult but you do have the year. I've had good luck just "calling" the Whiteside county office (this would be Morrison the county seat). I had a friend who found a baby grave at the foot of her grandfathers grave - nobody knew who it was, just had the year on it. We still don't know who it was but the girl at Morrison looked through the whole year for a baby death with that surname while I waited on the phone. They are all on the computer now so its not so hard for them anymore. The County has no record of that babys death so I guess the poor thing was probably still born - and they just buried it with grandpa! Anyway - its worth a try to call, they are nice people in Morrison and if they have the time, they'll probably look.
