Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin BLANKENSHIP without much to go on. I am sending this to the Illinois lists because I am thinking that since his wife was born in IL and her parents in TN, that maybe the Blankenship's moved from TN to IL, then to MO. Unfortunately I do not have last names for the women born in IL, but I figure that if I start shooting in the dark long enough, I will hit something. I estimate the Blankenship's migrating to IL after 1825. I found Calvin BLANKENSHIP married to DELIAH on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WILLIAM BLANKENSHIP and his wife, PAMELA JANE. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll, since he was a confederate), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!!

Illinois Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Il/Whiteside/738 Surname: Osterhoudt ------------------------- My ancestor, Solomon Osterhoudt, was a minister at his death in 1859. Is there a church or church records in Jordan or the surrounding area where he might have served? The denomination would most likely have been Christian (Church of Christ) or Baptist as this was the family tradition.

Posted on: Whiteside Co. Illinois Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Whiteside/734 Surname: HAYNES, JENNISON, GANN ------------------------- Hi Bob- Thanks so much for the census info. Actually Agnes Haynes age 22PA was the wife of Daniel Haynes. This record indicates that at least Daniel R. was in Pennsylvania around 1866 and married there, first two children born there. Land entries for Buffalo Co. South Dakota has James A. and Daniel R. Haynes 1889 & 1891. It's possible this Haynes family did not stay in Whiteside County but apparently Elizabeth Jennison Haynes died 1873 in Fulton. Link: Haynes Family Genealogy URL: <http://members.aol.com/chrishayne/>
Susan~ >From "History of Whiteside Co." Bent-Wilson (1877) p170: "Gerten Bros. and the Messrs. Spark have each a good sized pipe manufactory, and each of them turn out annually a large number of boxes of pipes, which find a market in all sections of the country." >From "A History of Whiteside County Illinois" by Wayne Bastian (1968) p226: "Back in 1868, Nick Gerten, who had been living in Fulton for about a year, packed some samples of clay and returned to Germany. There, under tests, the clay proved to be excellent pipe material. In 1869, he returned to Fulton, accompanied by his parents, brothers, and sisters. They moved into a house east of the Water Works and started to manufacture clay pipes. The Gertens were accompanied by Charles Starck who worked with them for a time and then went into business for himself. About 1884, Peter Starck, Jr., arrived in Fulton. He started a factory in 1896. By 1897, there were four manufactories in the city. They were run by John Gerten and Henry Gerten, Nick Gerten, Peter Starck, Jr., and Nick Starck. At peak production as many as 72,000 clay pipes were shipped monthly. Most of them went by steamboat to river-towns. They were shipped in barrels and packed in straw. Three of the factories closed in the early 1900s but Peter Starck's lasted until the 1930s. In late years, most of the clay pipes were used in shooting galleries or for souvenirs. Some of the pipes and cigar holders wee covered with a yellowish glaze, veritable poor-men's meerschaums." I will also do some census checking, if you'd like. I did not find the family in Whiteside in the 1880 census. Bob
Nellie, The Bastian book does not have much genealogy information...the reference to Alfred Graham on page 431 relates to the Village of Tampico and early burials in the cemetery in the NW corner of Section 26. "The thin stone carries the Masonic emblem and the lettering records the fact that Alfred Graham died July 11, 1874, at the age of 49 years, "A master craftsman among his peers." When State Highway 172 was extended south from Tampico, some of the bodies were removed to other cemeteries." Bob
>From: "Arlene Onken" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: RE: Dutch immigrant story > >Randy, Great story! Please post the Dutch Midwest Address. Arlene in >Illinois Thanks for your interest in Dutch-Midwest: a RootsWeb mailing list that was set up at my request earlier this year. Here is a description of the purpose: To exchange genealogical and historical information about Dutch immigrants (1840-1920) and their ancestors and descendants who lived in the states around Chicago, Illinois. Significant 'colonies' include: Illinois: Chicago (west side), Roseland, South Holland, Fulton Indiana: Highland, DeMotte / Iowa: Pella, Sioux Center / Minnesota Wisconsin: Sheboygan / Michigan: Holland, Grand Rapids (and there are others too...) There has been much movement and intermarriage between these 'colonies', even in succeeding generations, and therefore we welcome subscribers with interest in any of these areas. There is a lot of Chicago area expertise on the list, but some Iowa and Michigan too. We also have a handful of subscribers in the Netherlands. Here's how to subscribe: Send the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) as the only text in the body of a message to [email protected] (mail mode) or [email protected] (digest mode). Mail mode means all messages arrive individually in your e-mail box. Digest mode means several messages are lumped together into one large message and that is delivered once every day or two. More details will be sent to you in the welcome message. You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Sincerely,

HAYNES born ca 1813 in New York. He married Elizabeth Jennison 1841 in Rushford Co. New York. It is told that James A. Haynes operated a hotel in Fulton, IL around 1868. His daughter Sarah E. married Herst C. Gann in Fulton, IL in 1868, and they lived in Warren, Jo Davies Co where he was the newspaper editor. LDS says Elizabeth Jennison Haynes died 13 Sep 1873 in Fulton, IL. Are there any cemetery records which could verify this? It is said James A. Haynes and his son Daniel R. Haynes homesteaded in South Dakota (Buffalo Co.) but James A. Haynes was living in Omaha in 1889. Please contact me if this information rings any bells.
