Illinois Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Whiteside/767 Surname: SPRINGSTEAD, WINSLOW, PETTIT, LLOYD ------------------------- I descend from Albina SPRINGSTEAD b 22 Feb 1862, d/o James and Harriett (WINSLOW) SPRINGSTEAD. >From Abina's obit, she was born in Tampico, although I believe the family probably resided in Whiteside County rather than Bureau County. Albina SPRINGSTEAD was the 3rd of 9 children born to this family. She had a sister who married ___ BAILEY; I believe the BAILEY family "might have" resided in Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa. In 1878, Albina removed from Illinois to Red Oak, Montgomery County, IA with her grandparents. In the 1880 census, I find Albina living in the household of Rufus WINSLOW. Was this Winslow family the household of her grandparents? Albina Springstead first married Amasa PETTIT 1880; secondly Owen LLOYD 1886. Looking for descendants of Albina's children from her first marriage: Emma PETTIT and James Edward PETTIT. In 1945, James Edward PETTIT was residing in Oakland, California. I have a lot of information to share. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Dawn, Thank you for responding to my query . My Samuel P Johnston was born in Ohio abt 1815 and was married to Louisa (Lois) Evans. From the Illinois marriage records, a Lois Johnston married John D M Eick. They could of lived in Bureau Co., as three of Louisa's siblings lived there. Thanks Irene Kleiber

John and Susannah (Susan) Sykes were married in New York and came to Whiteside (Clyde)before 1860. They are on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census with their children Richard, John, Susanna, Ellen (Helen), and William. John Sykes the elder was born around 1818. Susannah Sykes, his wife, was born around 1817. Any information as to when they died, where they are buried, their exact birthdates, where in New York they lived, and who their parents are would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Nancy
Seth M. Graves married Melinda G. Wadkins 9 September 1847 in Christian County, IL. Does anyone know anything of him in Carroll or Whiteside County? I have reason to think he may be related to my great grandfather Thaddeus W. Graves who enlisted in Co G. 13 Illinois Volunteer Infantry in Whiteside County and died in Savanna, Carroll County, IL in 1910. Vincent Wadkins married Mary Ann Greaves (Graves?) 9 November 1847 also in Christian county. I am wondering if anyone has information regarding Mary Ann Greaves (Graves) and Vincent Wadkins as they may have moved to Whiteside or Carroll County later. Any help or information will be appreciated and I will gladly share what information I have. Lorraine in Oregon

Sept. 13, 1901 I know that my great grandfather died (& is buried) in Leroy, Nebraska on April 23, 1908. His wife, Huldah died on May, 25 1912 in Leroy, NE (& she is also buried there). Charles E. served in the 34th. Illinois Infantry, Company B in the Civil War. (I know this is the right Charles E. due to a civil war pension record listing him, Huldah, & Katie Kennedy as guardian.) He was mustered in, in Whiteside County. His "nativity" is New York state. (I'm assuming this means the place he was born.) He is listed as being 24, when he mustered in on Sept. 7, 1861. That would put his birth year at 1837. I've got a copy of this record.
