Illinois Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Il/Whiteside/10824 Surname: KANE, O'NEILL, RIORDON, ROARK ------------------------- I am searching for information on any KANE families of Whiteside Co. from 1860's on. Family legend says a Mrs. Kane (maiden name O'NEILL) came from Ireland in 1849, to Paterson, NJ, bringing her children, one being Ellen Kane who married Bartholemew RIORDON, and her brothers and sisters, which included James O'NEILL, Joseph O'NEILL, Alice O'NEILL, and MARY O'NEILL, possibly others, and who moved on to Whiteside Co., Illinois between 1855 and 1865. I have found records of a couple of Kanes who are probably grandchildren, Mary Ellen KANE married James Roark Oct. 28, 1877; and Thomas Kane (Kain) born 1869 - d. 1951, [cemetery records] with wife Nellie, born 1872 - d. 1955 [ cemetery records]. If anyone can give me information about any of the above people, especially the Kanes, I would be most grateful.

I have been there only twice, but found much valuable information in an index to Whiteside Co. marriage licenses 1839-1916, newspaper marriages and obits 1908-1930, indexes and extracts of US and state censuses of Whiteside Co., county cemetery records, 1890 tax list, Whiteside Co.
