    3. There will not be genealogy chat at www.freeportillinois.com this week. For the last few weeks participation has dwindled. I am not sure if it is because of changing the night or the nice weather. I would like some input from those of you who wish to participate as to days of the week and times that might be more conveniente. thanks, Lou Cook _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    3. Johanna In the 1850 census in Whiteside County the family was: 409/409 Leander Bates 37 M Farmer NY Mary 36 F NY Peter 17 M Laborer NY Jacob 13 M Conn. Emily 9 F Conn. Frederick 9 M Conn. Mary J. 4 F NY Clemming 1 M Ill. This introduces a BIG question!! Clemming as a Male instead of Clementine! Unfortunately, if they moved in 1858, they would not show up in the 1860 census. I doublechecked and they were NOT there in 1860. With a 1 year old baby, if you have other information that shows Clementine is female, I would trust that! The census taker may have just misunderstood what he was told! Illinois Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Whiteside/10915 Surname: Shaw ------------------------- Jane, The Miscelaneous Cemeteries Book published by the Whiteside County Genealogists shows on page 16, in the Minson Cemetery, Prophetstown Twp., Whiteside Co., IL Shaw, H., d. Feb 27, 1865 - 61 yrs. Shaw, Mahala, w. of H. d. Aug 12, 1872 followed by about a dozen of their children, etc. Checking the 1860 census, I find: Shaw, Hiram 59 M MA Farmer Mahala 49 F VT Lucy C. 17 F OH Isabel I. 12 F OH Lyman P. 33 M Canada Adeline W. 32 F VT Burton A. 3 M IL Adelbert 1 M IL Lyman was Hiram's son, and Adeline Lyman's wife, for Burton and Adelbert were grandchildren to Hiram. This supports more closely YOUR date of 1800! I don't know where the age came from, the Cemetery book does NOT indicate a full age on the stone...those old stones can be hard to read, it may be that someone read the 6 as an 8, while the person who read it for the Genealogists read a 4 as a 1 and got 61. I think I would stay with the 1800 date! Bob

(Hiram) Shaw located in the Washington Street Cemetery in Prophetstown, Whiteside Co., IL. It states he d. 2/27/1865, age "84, 6 mos, 15 das" but apparently does not state that he died at age 84 YEARS. If that is correct, then my birth date in Glover, VT on Hiram of 1800 is incorrect. Any information on Hiram and his wife, Mahala Washburn (of VT) would be greatly appreciated.

    3. Hi rooters. It's been at least 2 years since I posted my query to this group so here goes: I'm looking for descendants of Daniel and Jane Nicewonger who lived in Whiteside County early in the 20th century. Wife Jane had been born Jane Elizabeth Lowry in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob Lowry Jr and Elizabeth Giese. Daniel was from Westmoreland County PA. Jane was still living as of 1914. I am a Lowry, and Jane is my GGG-aunt. I have lots of Lowry information I will gladly and fully share with any descendants of this couple who might still be alive in 2001.
