Don't forget to check the FHC Library Catalog (FHLC) holdings for the years of interest. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?displ ay=localitydetails&subject=199466&subject_disp=Illinois%2C+White&columns=*,0,0 Above is on line URL, but if that gets broken or you cannot copy/paste it, just cut it back to familysearch.org; click on 'library catalog,' then do a locality search for White, part of Illinois; and choose the first link. They seem to have filmed some semblance of probate for years from 1820 to 1885 on 12 reels, each with an index at the beginning, under the title: " Probate journal, 1820-1874 Illinois. County Court (White County)," even though the title indicates earlier end year. Not sure the difference between that title and "Probate record, 1843-1848 ," but may be worth looking into for cost-effective research. Most FHC libraries don't charge more than about $4 for a 30 day rental, which at mine can be renewed/extended twice, at which time they will allow the film to remain at our local library indefinitely as long as we leave notice that we're still using it.
