This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Reeves, Halsey, Pickering, Hunter, Wright Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Yh.2ADE/1987 Message Board Post: I would appreciate any info regarding the lineage and history of Jehiel Halsey Reeves, who was my ggg-grandfather. He and his brother, Jeremiah, were supposed to have come from NY by keelboat to Shawneetown for a land grant and settled in IL around 1818. It is reported that Jehiel named the town of Liberty, IL, which is now known as Burnt Prairie. Can anyone confirm their parents as Barnabas Reeves and Esther (Halsey) Reeves (and their birthplaces)? If so, can you also confirm Barnabas' parents and their birthplaces? Any leads, forward, backwards, or sideways would be most helpful. Jehiel's obituary says that he lived in White County most of his life, and that he died at the home of his son-in-law Chas. W. Wright on Feb 17, 1881 near Fairfield IL. Jehiel was married to Mary Pickering in 1821, and to Mary Hunter in 1861. One of his 13 children, Charles A. Reeves [1827-1899(?)] was my gg-grandfather. I would be most grateful for any knowledge of any of these ancestors o! r their descendants and/or living relatives.
Someone published a genealogy of the Jeremiah Reeves family a few years back. I recall that the compiler donated a copy to the Albion Public Library. I suppose other area libraries also received copies of the publication. That publication might help you in your research.
