Don't think this is much help, but from the 1870 census: TENNIS, JOHN A 34 M W PA IL LIVINGSTON WALDO TWP Margaret, 26, b KY Grass, Joseph, 11, b IN Tennis, Wm., 5 mos., b IL, in Jan. Goldsmith, Nick, 34, b France John W., 3, b IL John was a farmer. The last child appears to be a Goldsmith, but could be a Tennis not listed in proper (or usual) order??? In 1880, the family is in Lincoln, Lawrence Co., MO (See familysearch.org) as J. A. Tennis. etc. Only child listed is son J. W., 10, b IL (plus nephew Cornelas Tennis, 27). Was Joseph Grass, in 1870 census, a son by a very early marriage of Margaret's?
