Counties of Cumberland, Jasper and Richland, Illinois : historical and biographical. Chicago: F.A. Battey & Co., 1884 Don't know if this is any help, but the book above contains a bio of John M. Wilson, who became the frst official of Richland Co. when he was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court in 1841. He was born in Prince William co., VA, near Bull Run in 1811. His father Jacob, of Scots-Irish descent, was born in PA. His grandfather Wilson fought in the Rev'n, was wounded at Paoli and captured. His Uncle Silas fought at Brandywine. His father Jacob was at Harper's Ferry in 1798? and served at the White House in the War of 1812. His mother was Margaret King, whose mother was a Kearney, related to Gen. Phil Kearney. In 1824, John's family moved to Jefferson Co. VA. In Oct. 1828, they moved to IL, reaching White Co. in Dec. of the same year, where they passed the winter at the home of a cousin JUSTICE WILLIAM WILSON. It goes on at some length about John, who became a lawyer and prominent Whig, etc., but there is no more about his cousin. Thought the family ties might mean something to you. --- Janean Ray <JRay38@neo.rr.com> wrote: > My brick wall John Wilson in Fauquier Co. > Virginia d. 1821 had proven 1 son > that went to Kentucky and I believe possibly 2 > but can't prove that. Well that does give me something. I have a copy of "The Wilson Story" provided by the White Co. Historical Society as well as passed down from papers my grandmother had. This Wilson story was written by Ruth Wilson Dillon who descends from my same line of John Wilson and Elizabeth Chinn and who wrote the Chinn Book states that "There was some relationship between John Wilson and Judge William Wilson of Carmi. Also an old letter to Rawleigh Chinn Wilson refers to "your Uncle Jacob Wilson" Mary Jane Stewart, late of Carmi, said that Judge William Wilson and Rawleigh Chinn Wilson were "cousins". There was a Jacob Wilson in early Carmi who married a King but no relationship to John Wilson has been established. Judge Wilson's son, Charles James Fox Wilson married Harriett Lucy Wilson daughter of John Stretchley Wilson who was the son of my brick wall John Wilson and Elizabeth Chinn. So, if this John M. Wilson was a cousin to Judge William Wilson and Judge William Wilson was a cousin to my John Wilson's son Rawleigh then my John Wilson's father who I believe to be William could be the father of Jacob as well. I always believed that John had a brother Jacob as one of his son's name was Jacob. I think I might be on to something here, thanks so much.
