Norm, That far back the name of the cemetery was probably pretty fluid. As far as I can tell, Maple Ridge was established around 1890 as the Old Cemetery was getting full and folks liked the new cemetery on a hill west of Carmi. I think the Catholic cemetery adjacent to the public cemetery might predate the larger burial ground, but not by much. If you give us the name we can see if the person is listed on any of our cemetery listings. Cindy, This is the piece from the paper, abstract of obituary from the Carmi (Illinois) Times from 1896. reads as follows. 1896 Apr. 29 Carmi Times Glennie G. Gidcomb d/o Joseph Gidcomb. Burial Fri. Maple Grove. Parents Joseph and Martha both buried Maple Ridge Cemetery.
