FYI; no relation. There are two Nicholas (or Nich) Zopfs in the 1880 census (at familysearch.org). One is in Evansville, IN and one is in Madison Co., IL (see notes below). Neither has a wife named Malinda or Elizabeth. One is md. to a Frances, and the other to a Catherin. A second wife, perhaps? Both men were b. in Germany. No Nich, Nick, or Nicholas Zopf or Zoph in the 1870 or 1910 census index. Could he have used another first name (Adam, George, Peter, Philip, Wm. are some Zopfs listed.) Could these Madison Co. Illustrated : with biographical sketches of many prominent men and pioneers. Edwardsville, Ill.: W.R. Brink & Co., 1882 States that the tavern of Nicholas Zopf, "old democratic wheelhorse of his vicinity", is the center of the little village of St. Morgan. It is at the site of the former post office.
