    1. Re: [ILWHITE] Sigler Family
    2. Diana, I am not descended from the Sigler family, but I have two family connections to that family. My Gr. Grandfather William Henry Rice married Mary Jane Sterling. Mary Jane's parents were Thomas Sterling and Rebecca J. Endsley. Thomas died in the Civil War, and Rebecca (Endsley) Sterling remarried to John Sigler on 6 Oct 1864 in White Co., IL. John Sigler's had first married Isabella W. Black on 2 Dec 1841 in White Co., and they were recorded as residents of Shadsville, Hamilton Co., IL, in the 1860 census. John was born 2 Nov 1809 in KY, and he died 28 Dec 1902 (in Hamilton Co., I believe). I don't know whether I have his parents' names in my files somewhere or not. In the same Rice family, my Gr. Grandfather William Henry Rice's daughter Effa Irene Rice married Charles Williams. Their daughter, Mary Frances Williams, married Sherman Leonard Sigler, son of Emanuel Sigler and Florence Hardesty. One of the granddaughters of Mary and Sherm sent me a diagram of her family. It shows Emanuel Sigler and a John Sigler as brothers who came from Germany. There is a date of 1805 written next to the John Sigler on this diagram, and 1812 written next to Emanuel Sigler. I assume the John Sigler who married Rebecca Endsley Rice (above) was part of the same family. If that John was born in KY in 1809, how was the brother of Emanuel born in Germany in 1812? I think both John Siglers mentioned are the same person, and that the part about having been born in Germany is in error. Emanuel, 48 in the 1860 census, was also listed as having been born in KY (about 1802). I think the Siglers in KY might offer a clue to your puzzle. The person who sent me the diagram doesn't do actual research. She did the work as a school project, and wrote to my Dad and probably other family members. This probably isn't anything new to you. I wish I could help you more, but I don't research this family, as I only record material tangential to my Rice family. I would like to know, however, how you are related to the Sigler family. Good Luck. Shirley Fritsche
