Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I need help finding any death and/or burial record for Nancy A. Hays. Nancy was born 5/2/1814 Greene Co TN and died 3/16/1889 White Co IL. She married George S. Koonce in 1834 Rutherford Co TN. Nancy was a daughter of George A. Hays and Massa LNU. I am hoping the death info for Nancy A. Eldon, you need to cross the river to Mt. Vernon in Posey CO., IN. There is a public tree on ancestry that has Nancy Adkins Hays-- May 3, 1814 Jefferson CO., TN Mar 16, 1889 Posey CO, IN Md to George S. Koonce (Counts) on May 20, 1834 in Rutherford CO., TN Residing in Marrs Twp, Posey CO., in 1870 Her parents were George Akin Hays-- 1781 in NC, d. Dec 1852 Posey CO., IN Mother was Macie Bais, b. 1790 in NC, md 1804, in Posey Co in 1850, 60, d. 1861, Posey CO. There might be something at the health dept at Mt. Vernon-- Indiana started keeping birth/death records in 1882. Often the records did not get filed though. I would first google the number for the library at Mt. Vernon and speak to the genealogy area. They may have a book of deaths in Mt. Vernon of the deaths that are listed at the health dept. Then if you have a book/page number you can call the health dept for more info. Nancy's mother might share the same last name as many of my ancestors do-- "don't know". The name will be listed if the informant knew it. You can also try and email the person who has the trees on ancestry and see where they got the info. Good luck.
