    3. On October 19, 2012 at 10:45am, Reverend Michael Allen Steed age 58, went to be with the Lord. Mike “O Glory” Steed was serving as pastor of New Hope Webb Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, IL. He will be best remembered as the man who loved to laugh. He was a voice on the local radio station the Vine and kept his audience laughing with countless stories and his constant humor. Mike had served in the ministry for 33 years in churches both in Illinois and Missouri, including Wayne City Baptist, Platte City Baptist, and Logan Street Baptist. Mike was a graduate of William Jewell College and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City. He also served as Director of Missions for the Salem South Baptist Association of Mt. Vernon, IL. Other ministries included serving the IBSA Music camps, directing youth camps, directing “Teen Talks” at Wayne City High School, singing at numerous weddings and revivals and sharing the Lord with everyone he could. Mike used his special talent of drawing characters on napkins in restaurants to share the Lord with others. Michael is survived by his wife Jane (Mitchell) Steed of 38 years, his daughter Holly and son-in-law Keith Braddock of Maryville, IL, his son Ryan and daughter-in-law Ashley(Eaton) Steed of Pelzer, SC. He is also survived by four precious grandchildren who affectionately called him “PawPaw,” Chandler, Cade, and Cloee Braddock and Gabby Steed. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather Irma (Ice) Steed Poole and husband Bob of Thompsonville, IL, mother-in-law Virginia Mitchell of Enfield, IL, sister-in-law Marsha Steed of Galatia, IL, brother-in-law Steve Mitchell of Enfield, IL, brother-in-law Dan and Julie Mitchell of Wadesville, IN, brother-in-law Tony and Teresa Mitchell of McLeansboro, IL, sister-in-law Nancy and Steve Thomas of Springerton, IL, sister-in-law Clara and Dean Vaughn of St. Jacob, IL, brother-in-law Chris and Cathy Mitchell of Enfield, IL, brother-in-law Greg Mitchell of Noblesville, IN, as well as many nephews and nieces and a vast number of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Bill Steed, his brother Rev. Denny Steed, father-in-law Gene Mitchell, paternal grandparents Adrian and Ella Steed, and maternal grandparents Irvin and Clara Ice. VISITATION will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 22, at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 23, also at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, with Reverend Jimmy Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon. For those who wish, memorials may be given to American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association in Memory of Rev. Michael Allen "Mike" Steed and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, 62864.
