She was born January 2, 1924, in Fairfield, the daughter of William S. and Hettie (Musgrave) Pollard. She married Darrel Sexton on July 28, 1953, in Carmi, and he survives. Helen spent the last 17 years as an active member of Stewart Street Baptist Church, serving as the church treasurer. Prior to that, she had worked for the Chief Accounting Officer at S.I.U. Carbondale, while Darrel attended school. Helen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Darrel; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Teresa Sexton, of Carmi; a granddaughter, Lindsey Sexton; sisters-in-law, Maxine Maier and Jan Sexton of Carmi, Sue (Dean) Gilbert of Decatur, and Sandy Sexton of San Diego, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Allan Brandenstein of Carmi; and several special nieces and nephews. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ava and Charles Jacobs and Ruby Pollard. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Roger Balfour will officiate. Burial will take place in White County Memorial Garden.
