In case you have decided that your Newton is son of Jesse and Martha, I found Jesse listed as Wm J Smith in 1860 in White Co IL. I misread Newtons age in 1870, that was a sixteen, they made a loop and it looked like a four to me. So if this is your Newton look for a marriage in Tennessee. Jesse and Newton were born in Tennessee so you might find Jesse somewhere in Tennessee in 1850 if this is the person you are really looking for.
