Newman, 93, Enfield, died at 7:24 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at Phoenix Nursing and Rehab in Carmi. He was born Nov. 20, 1918, in White County, the son of Howard Thomas and Nellie (Land) Newman. He married Helen Elizabeth Smith on Dec. 30, 1942, and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2009. Ed was a grain farmer and also raised hogs. He was a member of Enfield Christian Church and White County Farm Bureau. Ed is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra (Frank) Paul and Judy (Gary) Morris, all of Enfield; a brother and sister-in-law, William S. (Faye) Newman, Marion; five grandchildren, Rick and wife, Julie Morris, Pam and husband, Pat Rankin, Eric and wife, Robin Shook, Matthew and wife, Gina Shook and Dr. Stephanie and husband, Hunter Brewer; eight great-grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Fred Leeds officiating. Burial to follow at Enfield Cemetery.
