She was born October 14, 1914 at Ava, the daughter of John and Rosalee (Johnson) Leonard. She first married James Henry Peyton in October 1931 and he preceded her in death on July 1965. Ruby then married William Carl McMahon on April 1972 and he preceded her in death on September 1996. Ruby worked in housekeeping at Wabash Christian Retirement Center, retiring when she was 78 years old. She loved to garden, especially her flowers. She loved her family so much and spent her life loving the Lord. She was a longtime member of Missionary Baptist Church in Crossville. Ruby is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry Dean and Jeanette Peyton of Maunie and Jerry Ray Peyton of Crossville; six daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Duvall of Crossville, Anita Schneider of Carmi, Lula Belle Witcher of Norman, Okla., Nina and Bob Duckworth of Maunie, Donna and Jimmy Daugherty of Madisonville, Ky., and Diana and Buddy Schwindel of Crossville; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Genice Dagner of Ava. She was preceded in death by her son, James K. Peyton; three brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 23, 2012 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in North Maple Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi.
