Whetstone, age 86, of Carmi, were held Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 2 p.m., at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Friends and family visited together Saturday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home. The Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge performed Masonic Burial Rites at 5 p.m. Pilgrim Burial Rites were performed at 7:30 p.m. by The Loyal Order Of Moose. Chaplain Mike Fields opened the service by reading Mr. Whetstone's obituary. Musicians Dr. Fred L. Smith and Marjorie Brown performed the hymn "How Great Thou Art." Chaplain Fields delivered the message, and closed the service in prayer. Steve Whetstone, Charlie Whetstone, John Whetstone, Nathan Whetstone, Jim Whetstone, and John Mainieri served as pallbearers at Liberty Cemetery in Burnt Prairie where Mr. Whetstone was buried. Military burial rites were performed by the American Legion Post and the VFW Post of Carmi. Family and friends gathered at Burnt Prairie Baptist Church for a meal following the service.
