He was born to Blanche (Howell) and Hubert Hanks of Crossville. They are both deceased. Hanks graduated from Crossville High School and the University of Houston. After college, he moved to Bogota, Colombia in South America where he was comptroller of Colombian Petroleum Company for 14 years. Later he became owner of Lowrie Travel Agency and traveled Internationally. When he retired, Hanks moved to St. Louis, where he taught English to European students. Hanks is survived by a son, Kenneth James Hanks, and two granddaughters, Ashley and Isabelle of Dallas, Tx. He is also survived by a sister, Ruth Hanks Edwards, his nephew, Wesley and Tracey Hanks Edwards and a great nephew, Joseph Hanks Edwards of St. Louis. Cousins Jim and Bess Hanks of West Lafayette, Ind., Ron and Beverly Hanks of Indianapolis, Ind., and Len and Carolyn Hanks of Carmi also survive.
