She was born Feb. 2, 1929 in Blytheville, Ark., the daughter of Ben and Helen (Boyd) Cooper. Diane married Richard Dale Witherspoon on July 31, 1948. She retired after 30 years of working for the White County Sheriff's Department and the White County Treasurer's Office. Diane was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carmi. Diane is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard Dale of Carmi; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Witherspoon, and Chris and Laura Witherspoon all of Carmi; three granddaughters, Tracy Serra and her husband Jose, Kyley Witherspoon and Megan Witherspoon; a niece, Heather Carlomago of Norris City; and a nephew, Hunter Cooper of Norris City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Lyle and Nell Boyd; a brother, Stan Cooper; and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Kingdom Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call on Sunday, April 1 after noon until service time.
