She was born October 12, 1926, in Mill Shoals Township, the daughter of Carl O. and Gladys (Pool) Leathers. She married James M. Rockett on March 17, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and he survives. Rockett loved quilting, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was an accomplished singer, songwriter, and pianist. She was very proud of the fact that her song "Oh What A Feeling" was professionally recorded by the Tarheel State Quartet from North Carolina. Rockett retired after 25 years as Postmistress of the Springerton Post Office. She was a member and pianist of the Springerton Community Church and a member of the Springerton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Rockett is survived by three sons, Dennis and his companion, Jeannette Heitman, of New Iberia, La., Kenny and wife, Carmen, of Carmi, and David and wife, Stephanie, of Elmhurst; two daughters, Susie Willis and husband, Braden, and Linda Duckworth and husband Randy, all of Enfield; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rockett is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Genelle and husband Floyd Newby, Kathryn and husband Marvin Dozier, and an infant sister, Pansy Marie; a granddaughter, Kelli Denise; and daughter-in-law, Cheryle Rockett. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Springerton Community Church in Springerton. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. in the church. Burial will take place in Hammack Cemetery in Springerton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield. Condolences may be left at kittinger-fairfuneralhome.com.
