It does appear that both lines were in Sumner County TN in the early 1790s. If there is proof linking the two I'd love to see it. >From the evidence it appears that Joseph Waller, Jr. who was in Cape Girardeau, is not the same Joseph of White County IL. When Joseph Waller, Sr sold the ferry and 640 acres (now Trail of Tears State Park) to Green in 1817 the family used the money to buy land in the newly openened Union County IL Territory. Both are listed as original inhabitants of that county. It is assumed that Joseph Sr moved back accross the river to Cape as his 1821 will was probated there. Joseph Waller, Jr died in Union County IL in 1823 from consumption, supposedly contracted during the Indian campaign in 1815 ending with the Battle of the Sink Hole. His widow remarried Lamer. Now the speculative part. There was a Joseph Waller in White County IL Territory early. The county is named for a Maj Leonard White, who, among other things was head of the US salt works in neighboring Saline County IL. Here's where it gets interesting. There is a 1796 case in the Cape Girardeau Spanish Upper Louisiana records in which Joseph Waller's daughter, Deborah, applied for emancipation from her parents based upon the inheritence she received from her grandfather, Leonard White of the Cumberland Country." There are many questions presented. Two are: Was IL Leonard White son of the Leonard White who died before 1796? Was IL Joseph Waller a cousin of MO Joseph Waller? I'd love some ideas.
