Carmi Times Mon Apr 27, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - George William "Bill" Rector Jr. 79, Carmi, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at his residence. He was born Feb. 7, 1930 in Silex, Mo., the son of George William and Mary (Beck) Rector. His father died and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Mary and Leonard Samford. He married Winifred Ann Bolliger Aug. 29, 1953. He was a Korean War Marine veteran and co-owner and operator of Rector & Stone Drilling Co. He was a member of and ruling elder of First Presbyterian Church in Carmi. He was a member of the Carmi Country Club, Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 224 and VFW Post 3851. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Winifred A. "Winnie" Rector of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law Georganne and Bill Clark of Jackson, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Janet Rector of Royse City, Texas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris Samford of Pine, Colo., Miriam and Buck Warren of Olathe, Kan., and Barbara and Bill Wasson of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Wilma Samford of Blue Eye, Mo.; four grandchildren, Bryan Clark and fiance' Rachel Brown of Pittsburg, Pa., Kathryn Clark of Madison, Wis., Joshua Rector and friend Michelle Smith and Jennifer Rector, all of Royse City, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Sophie Rector; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hayden "Bob" Rector; a sister, Dorothy Samford Lappin; and a grandson, Billy Rector. Arrangements are pending at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
