Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Mary Louise (Newman) Balance, 86, formerly of Carmi, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Fayette County Long Term Care in Vandalia. She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Henderson, Ky., the daughter of John H. and Eunice Stewart. Mary Louise and her husband, Burton Newman, owned and operated "Pee Wee's" Grocery on North Fifth Street in Carmi for nearly 30 years. Burton died in 1976 and Mary Louise relocated to Tucson, Ariz., where she met and married Glen Balance and remained for the next 30 years. All who knew her will remember her as a caring, outgoing and vivacious individual who was always concerned about the welfare of others and a great lover of planning special parties for her many friends. Survivors include: a son, Richard (Pamela) Newman of Sequim, Wash., and their son, Nicholas and wife Kelly; a daughter, Teresa (Scott) Howard of Carmi, and their sons Stewart and his wife Terri and Scott Richard and two great-grandchildren, Seth and Samuel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at White County Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jon Farmer of Foothills Community Church in Tucson officiating. All who knew her are invited to join her family in remembering her at this time
