Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Enfield, Ill. - Grace Ellen Peterson, 57, of Enfield and formerly of Lombard, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, at her school residence in Carbondale after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born May 13, 1951, in Chicago, the daughter of Rolland Harold and Kathleen Anne (Morphy) Peterson. Ms. Peterson retired after 25 years of service as a telecommunicator with the Illinois State Police in Elgin and at District 19 in Carmi. She was a very successful produce farmer and sold organic chicken eggs. She loved all animals and kept special care of many varieties of farm animals on her property at Enfield. She recently completed her undergraduate degree in criminal justice and was looking forward to her graduation May 10 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Among her survivors are: a sister, Sandra Helen Anne Peterson-Fox of Charleston; two brothers, Robert William (Cindy) Peterson of San Marcos, Calif., and Alan (Delores) Peterson of Littleton, Colo.; four nieces and nephews, Eric Fox of Ottawa, Kristin (Jason) Britt of Oakland Park, Fla., Shannon Rose Peterson and Adam Peterson, both of San Marcos, Calif.; great-niece, McKena Fox of Flora; an aunt, Susan Morphy Morgan of California; and cousins, Patricia Janis, Susan Merrill, and Marjene (Gilbert) Simmons of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold Bruce Peterson; and her uncle, Rolla Morgan. Services honoring her life were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon. Burial was in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her honor are suggested to Lincolnland Hospice or Coles County Animal Shelter.
