Carmi Times Tue Apr 21, 2009 Norris City, Ill. - Earl Douglas, 100, Norris City, died at 6:10 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Carmi. He was born March 2, 1909, in Gossett, the son of John Mitchell and Minnie (Edwards) Douglas. Earl had worked as a station operator for Texas Eastern Pipeline in Norris City. He was a member of Mt. Oval Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Norris City and was a 77-year member of the Omaha Masonic Lodge. Among his survivors are: his wife, Freda Faye (Cox) Douglas of Norris City; two sons, Edward (Kathy) of Omaha and Melvin Douglas of Covington, La.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: a sister, Ella Sheldon; and three brothers, Herschel, William and Lawrence Douglas. Funeral services begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with the Rev. Terra Sisco officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Oval Cemetery in Norris City. Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
