Carmi Times Tue Jul 21, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Mary Jane Chapman, 75, Carmi, passed away at 11:22 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was born March 6, 1934 in Carmi, the daughter of Robert and Pauline (Vaupel) Hutchinson. She married Glenn Laverne "Curley" Chapman May 12, 1951, and he preceded her in death April 2, 1984. She was a farm wife, homemaker and Methodist by faith. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Thomas Deering of Evansville, Ind; a son, Steve Chapman of Carmi; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Richard Hutchinson, Donnie Hutchinson, and Roger and Lois Hutchinson, all of Carmi, and Herman Hutchinson of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Monica and Tonya Chapman, and Julia Deering; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Chapman; and two sisters, Becky Vandewater and Rowena Jones. Graveside funeral and burial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, with Paul Fishback officiating. Memorial gifts may be given in Mary Jane Chapman's name to the American Cancer Society. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
