Carmi Times Tue Jul 21, 2009 Carmi, Ill. - Beverly Arden Weiland, 75, Carmi, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, with her daughter and daughter's friend at her bedside. She was born May 4, 1934, in Hardin County, Ky., the only child of John and Marie (Lowrey) Vaughn. She was married to G.W. Weiland on June 23, 1956, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2007. She graduated with honors in 1951 from Cave-in-Rock High School in Cave in Rock. In 1955, she graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, with bachelor's degrees in English and interior design. She was an active member in Alcoholics Anonymous and was an avid lover of animals and an animal rights advocate. Her hobbies included cakes, cooking and needlework. Her cakes were very popular at church functions and various social affairs. Survivors include a son, Gerald W. Weiland of Evansville, Ind.; a daughter Sharon "Sherry" Jonn Weiland of Carmi; and seven grandchildren, Philip, Christopher, Katie, Kiersten, Grace, Jared and Michael. Preceding her in death are her parents, John and Marie Vaughn; former husband and best friend, G.W. Weiland; and granddaughter, Kearis Lauren. Visitation and funeral service will be Wednesday at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is at noon and continues until the funeral service at 2 p.m., followed by a private burial for immediate family. Memorials of the donor's choice may be made and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi.
